Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I suppose if I made the funeral in winter, the widow could wear a scarf or sweater made from llama wool...

I read your excerpt before work. Interseting start. Pretty gritty but it really gets you into it fast.

...and she keeps alpacas on the farm just for the wool...

I was planning to challenge everyone to include ninja llamas from the future in their stories... I guess including any part of that is kinda the same.

3 words. The title and "chapter 1". But I just got up.

She lives in DC, and wouldn't have anything to do with farming. It just isn't ~done~.

Maybe she has an alpaca wool supplier in Maryland or Virginia? She could get llama-bit on a trip to pick up more wool.
If she doesn't knit, then never mind. :)

Well, she would have the knitting done for her.
She's the wife of a former Congressman (now, the dead political consultant), a debutante and a former Miss Mississippi.
The main part of the story is about him. But she's key in how she reacts to what he's done. And since he's dead, she gets to begin and end the story.
I thought about having the kids piece it all together at the end, but that seemed to "Bridges of Madison County-ish."

That is pretty handy... and would fit better than just having them jump out of a portal from the future and kill off all your characters.

Okay, here's what's crowding Corin's brain today...
Nanowrimo
Election
Christmas production
Wife is at a business meeting in Atlanta
And, my parents would have been married 53 years today. I need to call my Mom. Maybe I'll ask her if she ever paid for her wedding pictures.
But, with all that, I just don't see any room in there for work...

Some of that sounds like it might involve work... surely that is close enough.
To: Corin Stormhands
Work? What is this? I have way too much life going on for there to be work.

It's definitely a rough draft and I'm not happy with the way I've used words to describe things, but I'm hoping inspiration will strike soon.

Yeah, that doesn't really fit the story. It might if I ever went back and finished/re-wrote what I did in 2003 or was it 2002?
Okay Jen, help me out. What was the first year we did Nanowrimo? I thought that was the year my father-in-law died and I just couldn't finish. That was 2002.
OR was it a year later when Nana moved in with us? That makes more sense now...I was trying to figure out why my sign up date was 2003 not 2002.
Thanks for your help Jen...

I've done it, and roped people into it, for four years now. So that's be... 2002. Maybe you re-signed up in 2003? I know I did.

Does your sign up date say 2003 and not 2002?
Maybe this is a job for Bear's research.

Well see, if the plot you have turns stale or you run out of steam, or are close to the end but already 'done' or so far from the end at close to 50k that it does not matter... All those are good times for the ninja llamas from the future to show up. The can show up any time no matter how it does not fit, because they are from the future. Even if it does not make sense WHY the showed up since they are llamas and it is hard to understand their motives.
To: Corin Stormhands
Too much to do and too little time to do it.
I've decided that I will gladly trade an extra hour every night of sleep for NaNoWriMo.
I've got 33 payrolls today and have no desire to start.

Yes, mine too, I forget why I resigned up. But I've got three years' worth of completed NaNo stories so I must have started in '02.
