Nope, you type your masterpiece into your favorite word processor. Then, at the end of each day or so, you log into the NaNo site and report how many words you generated since the last time you logged in. Preferably, you're using Word, or some other word processor that counts words.
If you use something like WordPad or NotePad, there are, I believe, applications that will count words for you.

Although now that I think of it, it's what the Sergeant does, and all the other troops, that makes our humble efforts worthwhile. Heh... or possible in the first place. :-)
It really is good to know that we're doing something that is needful, if even small by comparison. Gotta love these guys.
They do something so big and we do something so small, yet they take time to say thanks to us. Sure, many say thanks to them, but not enough. Not enough.
