The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And while I'm talking senselessly, I might as well share my emotions toward the dryer.

My kid is learning about meiosis and mitosis and I'm sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to my dryer turning.

This has got to be heaven on earth!

Haven't ridden the T much, but the subway in NYC was kinda disconcerting. I loved the Metro in Tokyo, though! The stations were always clean and well lit, the platforms didn't give you the creeps, and the people ON the subway were always VEY polite! It's considered extremely rude to talk on cell phones on the Metro, so all the cell phone companies offer C-mail free to their customers, so if someone else has the same cell phone company, you can text message each other for free. So you could sit in the Metro car having a conversation with someone entirely in text messaging!

That close? I don't know where he'll be working. Might be Music Ministry at a Baptist Church somewhere, I'm not sure.

We took the T from Quincy one time when my cousin wanted to take us on a walking tour of Boston. I'd hate to do that every day. Guess I'm spoiled with my private car complete with private radio/CD player.

Well....maybe it's a couple of blocks. Around here it's hard to tell where one town ends and the other begins. :)

It's within walking distance, though.

I have really intense feelings toward my microwave. I mean, I can't describe how I feel when I look at it.

heh heh! Yeah.

The other night he asked me what a hooker was. (He heard it on TV, of course.) I told him "It's a woman that does things that are against the law." Then I told him that it was also one of those words that he got one chance to say and he shouldn't say it again. (We have a rule that if he says a bad or vulgar word, he gets one chance to find out either what it means and/or whether he can say it again.)

Heh...it's the cast of "T.J. Hooker"

William Shatner's 80s TV show.

You could have told him "Hooker was a Civil War general."

IIRC the common use of the name came from the women who used to hang around General Hooker's encampments.

Luke is going as a jedi gone bad. He decided in August he wanted to be Darth Vader.

AND, I'm painting a Darth Vader pinewood derby car...sigh...

He's never even seen the movies.
