The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think your rodents need safety training.

That's a rat.

Maybe it's a pedigreed Siberian hamster.

He could die as a result of huffing helium.

Nah, he's at least in his 60s, and he's a campaign professional. He wouldn't be near the helium tanks.

What if they accidentally used hydrogen in the balloons and it did a hindenburg?

Heh...a little too much drama. And I don't want to kill off anybody but this guy. I don't want his death to be "quirky," just somehow "poetic."

They are using balloons to hold up large displays. Some of the balloons pop and it falls on him, poetically swathing him in campaign banners.

A staid man, his feet flat on the ground ... poetic is when the ground moves ...

At a campaign stop, the portable stage collapses under him.

Something falling on him could work. I suppose the stage could fall ~on~ him, since he's not the candidate, he wouldn't be in the public eye.

Still haven't heard from my folks about what I'm supposed to do. I suspect they're frantically trying to get that money back without having to deal with me, which they were under the impression they could do and I'm pretty sure they can't.

For one thing, I have a hold placed on the account and nothing can be done without my ok. I mean, practically speaking, my ACCOUNT NUMBER is out in the world, not in my possession, and that makes me feel very insecure. I know they wouldn't use the number, but I don't know if they would use the same care I would in making sure it didn't get thrown out without being shredded and such, you know?

FWIW, if you can go ahead and transfer the money to their account without having to deal with them, I'd do it. Then say, "here, I corrected your mistake" and be done with it.

Otherwise, you'll fret over this until you get your tax return and pay them back directly.

Well, I would...but I don't know if they can get their money back from their account then, or is it stuck there like a "credit". They won't want a credit on their account...they'll want that money back.

I suspect they'll be able to get the money back...and you're probably right...it would probably be best. Which is why being rid of this would be a major plus.

But then again...being rid of this bill payment right here before Christmas would be a big plus too!

Either way, I'll be content.

They won't want a credit on their account...they'll want that money back.

Then they shouldn't have written a check without making a phone call.

I know you're seeing this as Christmas money, and if that's worth the grief of being beholden to them until spring, go for it, but I'd get out from under it. The credit on their account is not your problem, waiting three months to pay it back to them will be.

Not your problem. Not your worry.

But send 'em a nice note along with a Sam's catalog saying "The jedis would really like one of these for Christmas. You can get it at Sam's"

Seriesly. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Shoot, you got my 1776. But I got the triple sevens.

I want to come out of this looking like a good person that tried to help them fix their oopsie without too much trouble for them. They think I'm awful, Hair...have all my life. They've always assumed I'd make poor decisions and inconvenience them. They assumed it the other day when they accidentally got that bill and despite the fact that it was a mistake, they still assume it of how I'll handle this now.

I have to more than rise above it if that makes any sense. Not that it matters to anyone else but me.
