At A mere 5ft 3in, Prince has always relied on the highest of heels to give him a lift. But his penchant for platforms could have stacked the odds against him. At 47, he has been told he needs a hip replacement.

The singer believes years of strutting on stage (and energetic dance routines) have taken a toll on his joints.

"He used to wear high-heeled boots every day and doctors told him that may have contributed to his condition," a source told U.S. magazine the National Enquirer.

I'd loved to have seen the Revolution/Purple Rain era band live, the shows are legendary

Saw it.

It was hands down the BEST show I've ever seen; and I've seen them all.

Actually he could not use the name "Prince" during that time because the record label 'owned' it and he was suing them for breach of contract on a money matter. The record label's attorneys got an injunction against "Prince" using his own name! And...Prince was banned from talking about the case to the public. So, as a "$%^& You" to the label he made up the symbol.

Thanks to you and everyone who explained this to me. Guess I had forgotten the history of the "name change."

He sure is. I remember seeing Prince on the Rock and Roll HOF concert a couple of years ago doing a guitar solo on George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Just blew everyone else off the stage.

He didn't just blow everyone else off the stage, but he smoked Clapton's original solo. To make it even cooler, he looked like he wasn't even trying. He was quite the perv in his day, but I'm not sure there is a better overall musician around.

A friend of mine saw him several years ago in concert and said most of his songs were Christian/quite religious.

Despite his perverted lyrics, he's always been pulled towards Christian themes. Now, I think he's a Jehovah's Witness...

Since this is a rock 'n roll related thread, and many of the classic artists are no longer producing records, I thought I'd start a list of modern rockers who "get it", i.e. that ROCK!!! 1) Prince 2) Collective Soul 3) Lenny Kravitz 4) Blues Traveler 5) ...

Add Matthew Sweet and the Foo Fighters to the list. Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" is the best 3-minute, 3-chord pop/rock song of the last 20 years.
