FYI...Pigs Fly!! TV's "West Wing" really disses John Kerry..(a not so subtle hint NOT to run again?)

Posted on 10/10/2005 1:17:38 PM PDT by ken5050

Just finished watching last night's episode of West Wing while on the treadmill..Yes, I admit..I'm a fan of the show most Freepers love to loathe...I got hooked a few seasons back when they had a character who was based on Ann Coulter...but last night the show really clobbered John Kerry....

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; TV/Movies
KEYWORDS:
Here's a quick summery, for those who don't watch the show ( most of you ) to put things in context..

In the liberal fantasy land of the show's writers, the election is going on now, and the next president, to succeed Bartlett (Martin Sheen), will be chosen this Novemeber..The Dem candidate is a Latino US Congressman played by Jimmy Smitts ( from NYPD Blue) and in this episode he is getting pressure from the GOP candidate, played by Alan Alada, to take a stand on illegal immigration. The GOP candidate flies down to ElPaso to meet with the Minutemen, and praise their work. He mentions his support for CAFTA, and wonders how the Dem candidate could have voted against it, since it w ould create good jobs in Latin American countries which would keep illegals from coming here..The Dem candidate explains that he supported the bill originally when it was in committee, but had to voted against the final bill becuase of all the supposed changes to it...as he loudly explains to a reporter..I voted FOR the bill before I voted AGAINST it... while senior campaign aides grimace and shake their heads..

If there is a message here, it's that Kerry, who BTW spent the weekened in Iowa, should totally forget about running again, because the monied Hollywood set won't support him....This was a direct bitch slap upside the head..a word-for-word hoisting of Kerry on his own petard...a clear signal to him to fuggedaboutit. Dare we hope for a "Drean scream" moment soon?

BTW....this is no doubt the last season for "West Wing"..Its ratings are way down...off by a third..so of course the Dems will win this fictional TV WH, but the GOP keeps on winning the real ones...

The show died with Aaron Sorkin's departure. Everything since then has been a horrific trainwreck, in my opinion.

Some posted an article here yesterday, I think, that algore was considering a run. Oh, to be in Iowa when Kerry, Gore, and Clinton all try to out "liberal" eachother!

I'd have to seriously consider sending Gore a check were he to run again...It'd be worth it..

Alan Alda is Hollywood's idea of the perfect Republican.

West Wing is science fiction set in an alternate universe where liberals aren't slimy weasels.

Spock has a beard there.

Loved this show the first year. That was it for me. Interesting though- since the screaming madman Lawrence O'Donnell is one of the show's producers, or writers...wonder if they finally GET IT about Kerry?

"You mean there was a time when it wasn't a trainwreck??? Have you watched that liberal mess??"

If you watched it enough, it wasn't even close to being all liberal. In fact, there were plenty of very conservative characters portrayed as intelligent and decent people. There were wackos portrayed on both sides of the political fence. Yes, the show's politics leaned liberal, but they weren't entirely that way.

In the end, the show was witty and smart enough that the liberal politics were little more than a distraction from great storytelling and fantastic, snappy dialog. Watch the second season from start to finish and I guarantee you it'll break your heart to see what the show became after it lose Sorkin.

Has anyone tried to stomach E-Ring?

Talk about a terrible show. It is embarrassing. My wife questioned whether or not it was really like that. SHE SLEPT ON THE COUCH.

West Wing and Martin Sheen are very representative voice of the new Democrats, Hateful, Divisive and Evil.

Definition of a brave man: a FReeper who admits to watching West Wing ;-)

Does sound as if they took a pretty good slap at Kerry. Personally, I hope he does run again, for comic effect. You know the old Karl Marx quote:

"History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce."
