is there a way to be able to setup telnet while using cable broadband?
we no longer have a hardline phone and need to get into college classes via telneting
sure hope someone here has some experience
OS is XP Pro
At the prompt:
> telnet host_address port
doesn't work, and have disabled firewall to try all this too
Try HyperTerminal, should be under Start->Accessories->Communications
Did you get any instructions as to what box and on what port to telnet into?
e.g. to telnet into some server called aserver.blah.com (provided it is listening on a default telnet port,) you'd type something like this:
> telnet aserver.blah.com
If the machine is listening on some other port than 23, then, you'd have to supply the port number, i.e.:
> telnet aserver.blah.com 1023
yes, we have all that info
could a firewall within the router cause a block?
if so, how would I log into the router
I remember the guy setting it up but can't remember how to get to the prompt to log in
As to how to logon to the router, it depends on the router's manufacturer, typically, most routers have a web interface, so to logon you'd (in the IE) go http://192.168.0.1/ or whatever address your router has. It looks like you'll have to find out how to check your router's configuration. If you have the manuals check what they have to say there, if not you'd have to contact whoever's set it up for you as they most likely changed the default password to something more secure.
