I was hanging on each and every pitch. All 553. It felt like Election Night 2000, but I was prepared to go all night.
I just feel it is the Stros' year. The whole series the announcers talked about the baby Braves, and it took a baby killer B to win it!
That was one hell of a game.
Good game. Thanks to Ted Turner and CNN I always root against the Braves. Move the team out to Waycross and I might change my mind.
Okay, in 1964 I watched the Cubs vs Phillies at Wrigley and Billy Williams hit three homers. It must have seemed like four to a five year old.
You are correct that Gaylord never pitched for the Cubs. You see, I'm holding a baseball right now signed by the '64 Cubs. And there's Gaylord's signature. Why? Because in '64 we lived in Tucson, AZ and I use to watch the Giants Spring Training at Corbett Field in Tucson. I had Gaylord sign the ball with all the '64 Cubbies on it. I thought it was him who pitched that day at Wrigley.
BTW, this baseball does have Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, LOU BROCK, Leo Burke to name a few.
Care to guess what it's worth? ;^)
Wow. I hope Clemens is good for the rotation with the Cards.
Roger that! :)
As a Red Sox fan, I think I'm supposed to hate Clemens, but I don't. As a matter of fact, I believe that when he dies, the Cy Young award should be renamed to the Roger Clemens award.
I'll be pulling for the Astros to win it all this year.
Were I allowed to make that decision, I'd seed by W/L record then head-to-head. So in this case the Cards would still have the Padres (it worked out fairly this year).
That's my position as well. Record speaks loudest.
As we say in Texas . . . "that's a large statement." :^)
Agreed! I never unserstood why so many Sox fans hate him; it was Dan Duquette who said Clemens was in the "twilight of his career."
He's definitely one of the greatest pitchers who ever lived, and I wish the Red Sox fans who think that anyone who ever played for the Yankees at any point in his career is evil would realize that.
It wouldn't have been so bad, but the Braves twice squandered a leadoff walk -- statistically a leadoff walk will score 80% of the time. Not only that, but they had bases loaded with one out and failed to score. I've been a fan since the days of Dale Murphy and the 19-inning Independence Day marathon, but they are really trying my patience these days. I'm at the point where I'd almost rather see them lose 100 games again instead of getting my hopes up and then making a quick playoff exit. But that's just me...
Wow...you sure are lucky to have that baseball, and I do bet its worth quite a deal of money....
I'm resigned now to just be glad that I don't have to worry about what time they play for the rest of the year. They are so maddening to watch in the post-season but I like our chances with the rookies we assembled this year. We should be able to lose in the early rounds of the playoffs for years to come.
I just hope they get rid of the five game Division Series and go to seven.
