A potential drug lab uncovered in a Trinity University dormitory room.

San Antonio Police say they found materials used to make a psychoactive chemical said to produce strong psychedelic mental effects. News 4 WOAI has learned at least one student has been arrested and more than one other suspended in connection with the investigation.

University leaders say it all started when a staff member noticed drug ingredients in a student's dorm room. Trinity issued a warrant and san antonio police were sent in to search the dorms. The search came as a surprise to Joseph Macrini.

"I came into my room after track practice and there were cops in my room," said Macrini. "They wanted to handcuff me."

After further investigation, police did not arrest Macrini, but his roommate remains locked up tonight.

Police continued to search three rooms, finding evidence of what could have been a dorm room drug lab in one of the rooms.

"There were materials that were consistent with being with a substance called DMT," says David Tuttle, Dean of Students at Trinity University. Authorities say DMT can be smoked, injected, snorted or swallowed.

Trinity is not releasing the names of the students allegedly involved. The University says although the materials were there, there is no evidence that any drugs had actually been manufactured in the dorm rooms.

I can see the excuse now:

"I swear, officer, it was a chemistry experiment. It was for extra credit..."

Maybe it was part of an extra credit assignment wherein students had to explore the life of Timothy Leary...

Never heard of it, but according to a quick web search: it is similar to LSD though its effects are said to be more powerful

According to the DEA website, it is a powerful psychoactive drug.

Other sites, such as Wikipedia, indicate that it has serious long-term consequences.
