Your First Crush (Vanity)
Millee | Millee

And they called it Puppy Love………

Let’s have some fun and reflect upon our first crush(‘s). Who was the little school girl/boy who first made your heart all atwitter? What did you do to impress the object of your affection?

My first real crush was on a boy named T.J.. I even had a exclusive “T.J. diary” that I would write in daily, recording what he wore, if he smiled or acknowledged me for the day or where I could just practice writing my “new” name for after we got married.

One day during gym class I set out to impress T.J. by climbing to the top of this one stupid rope (why I thought that would impress him is beyond me) after struggling for what seemed like 20 minutes, I finally reached the top. Well after looking down the 80 feet (it was probably 15 – 20 feet, but just go with me here) I panicked about how I was going to get down. So I slid. In the process I burned all the skin off my hands, landing with bleeding, burning stumps. T.J. laughed and called me stupid. I don’t think there were any more diary entries after that.

Sigh…your stories……

Well, I'm outa here for today. I get to travel half across Texas for my son's football game. Being a 4A country school sucks sometimes.

Millee, thanks for the thread. It was a nice relief after the heavy Harriett Mier threads yesterday.

Second grade. Teresa Forehand. We smooched for hours one night in the Minot Air Force base nursery (kind of like a night time daycare for parents who didn't have a baby sitter).

Her mom loved me because I trudged through the December snow to spend an afternoon with her one time.

But, my first real-crush-so-hard-I-can't-stand-it was in the summer before 5th grade. Keri Martindale. The little tart broke my heart by choosing some new neighborhood guy with a fake English accent over me.

I never went through one of those "boys are gross" phases as a child; I always liked boys. However, I didn't have a strong and serious crush until 7th grade. I was at a new school and didn't know anyone yet. But in many of my classes I was always in the same desk cluster with this one boy. His name was Tom and we quickly developed an attraction. None of the other girls paid him any attention - he was pretty nerdy and a little overweight. But I had always been attracted to the nerdy, unpopular boys because they always were so much nicer than the popular jock kids. He was such a nice boy. The whole year long we talked, flirted, and most frequently cracked each other up in class. On the sly, Tom would draw little comic strips for me. They weren't very good, but I always laughed anyways, because I knew that the thought behind them was what counted. What a fun year seventh grade was! Although we both really liked each other, we never admitted it. I don't think either of us knew what to do about the situation. 7th grade is a little young to start "dating" and I didn't know any other way to solidify our bond.

Seventh grade ended, and for the whole summer I did not see Tom. We lived in different towns and to try and contact him over the summer would've been too weird, I thought. A few days before 8th grade began, I went over to the school to register and see which homeroom I would be in. I anxiously scanned the list of names under each homeroom. As soon as I realized Tom and I were not in the same homeroom, I was utterly devastated.

We still had a few classes together, but it wasn't the same. We were only in a science and math class together, where everyone sat in rows not desk clusters. I couldn't socialize with Tom during these classes. I never saw him anymore. It was so sad because I realized we would grow apart.

The most devastating blow came many months later. I was hanging around before school with a group of girls, including this one girl who was very popular but very nasty and mean. The nasty girl was in Tom's homeroom and saw him a lot. I was jealous enough of that to begin with. But what she then said made my blood run cold. She started complaining about how "that fat dork Tom" wouldn't stop flirting with her in class. I said nothing, but felt like I had just been punched in the stomach. She then went on to detail all the attempts Tom had made to impress her and how stupid and pathetic these were in her haughty eyes. To top it off, she said "and he's always drawing these stupid comics for me! What a dork!" It was simply unbearable. He used to draw comics for me! Now he was drawing them for this hussy who didn't even like him. I was so devastated that I cried myself to sleep that night.

After hearing of this, I tried to avoid Tom for the rest of 8th grade. This wasn't too hard to do, since we barely saw each other at all. After the school year ended, we went to different high schools and I never saw him again. I always wondered what happened to him.

Timmy K. 30 years later and we're still friends...in spite of the fact that he's now a prof at Princeton and is a total flaming liberal. I can forgive him just about anything, because he'll always be little Timmy K to me.

Sort of on topic, our 3 year old son informed us last week that he is getting married. Apparently, there is an older woman (3 1/2) in his class who is his "girlfriend" and gives him "hugs". He was very concerned about what to wear and after reviewing our wedding photos decided he would be wearing his Buzz Lightyear costume and that his girlfriend could be the "white power ranger".

We tried to explain to him that getting married was something you do when you are older and want to start a family. The next day, he announced his girlfriend has a "baby in her belly" (Mom was recently in the hospital for surgery, he was very concerned we would be bringing another baby home, which is where I think this part of tings is coming from) and so they need to get married this weekend.

I thought it was going to be a lot longer before I had these kind of conversations with my son....

Hee-hee! Let us know how she replies. There's a lot of freepers that I've never heard of from just 5-6 months ago.

They grow up so fast don't they? ;o) If that doesn't work out for him, my 4-year-old daughter has been talking marriage, but she wants a guy with a mustache. Your boy may need to work on that. :->

Lived on a street with mostly boys for neighbors (I was one of 3 girls and there was only 1 other girl in the neighborhood our age). I was about 6 and liked Tommy Reeder. Somebody on the block found out I had a crush on him and it became "street news" in a day! I was embarrassed and quit liking him right after that...But, then I grew up, all my friends married ahead of me, joked with my friends that God could just as soon bring a nice CHristian man to my front door and ding-dong guess who shows up at my parents house? A friend of my sister who wound up becoming my husband and great man! Moral to the story: crushes are for kids, but God has great hearing!

He is mature for his age, but thankfully not that mature.

Besides, it was an "older woman" that got him in this mess to begin with :)
