Well spoken, Sir!
Note to all the "fair-weather" Republicans/Conservatives out here:
Change, in politics and society, must be incremental, not instantaneous. At the present moment, the country is tending conservative but we will only accept as much conservatism as the public can stand. Just because republicans control the three branches of government now does not mean we have the mandate or the right to force every conservative principle down everyone else's throat RIGHT FRIGGIN' NOW. This is a time for reflection, responsibility and pragmatism.
Relax. Unbunch your panities and be patient. In the meantime, let's take the opportunity to get our house in order and prove that we're right.
- Stop the runaway spending based upon the premise that we can get away with it because we have a veto-proof majority. You cannot blame President Bush for this spending when it's the members of Congress who write the bills and appropriate the funds.
- Stop the republican practice of eating our own in an effort to sort the uber-conservatives from the sorta-kinda conservatives. Dissent in the ranks is to be allowed, but not when it comes to pis*ing contests about who is more conservative than who.
- Stop accusing the other side of hypocrisy and then excusing our own.
In order to continue we need to be doing it cleaner and better than the dumbocrats. We need to continue to show that we are the party of responsible adults. We can only continue to rule when we are confident, fair and unified.
Relax. Unbunch your panities and be patient. In the meantime, let's take the opportunity to get our house in order and prove that we're right.
That, Mr. Wombat, can not be said loudly or often enough.
Excellent points, excellent.
