I just compared their first 600 or so games. Give Gibbons a few more years and he will likely be even better. I never said that I didn't like Trot, all I said was that you get more from Gibbons dollar for dollar. I see Trot Nixon at the plate working the counts for walks instead of driving the ball. I see him taking too many check swing 3rd strikes. He has line drive power and should be using more of it.
That's the whole point of our offense. Work the count, be patient, get on base, wear down pitchers, look for pitches to hit AND AS A RESULT drive the ball and score lots of runs.
For the first time in his career Jay Gibbons is breaking .500 slugging (he's AT .500 now). Yet he's STILL only a better-than-average OFer because he doesn't get on base. A few more 0-for-4's and he's right back at mediocre.
