Marx like? I think not. Any good business would try their hardest to estimate their comptetitor's product. Information is a valuable asset. I don't know if these people are right about nano's costs- but it is far from Marx-like to try estimate the cost of a product, quite the opposite.

I was, from the start, referring to the register's take on it - and as far as I know they're not competing with the Ipod, they're just an online tech news source.
The way they insinuate that because materials are X, that means you can say they're making such and such a profit smacks as as saying 'oooh, look how much they're gouging you', when it doesn't take into account the many, many other costs associated with bringing a product to market.
