I was, from the start, referring to the register's take on it - and as far as I know they're not competing with the Ipod, they're just an online tech news source.
The way they insinuate that because materials are X, that means you can say they're making such and such a profit smacks as as saying 'oooh, look how much they're gouging you', when it doesn't take into account the many, many other costs associated with bringing a product to market.

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought they were saying the opposite- that the cost of production was expensive relative to the retail price. I was surprised to read that they were that expensive to make.
