EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- If New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning wants to know what to expect from Sunday's crowd in San Diego, I have a suggestion: Talk to your general manager.
Eli Manning returns to the city he refused to play in. "I don't have to talk to Eli," said Ernie Accorsi. "If he were another type of personality, it would be different. But he's as poised a quarterback as you could want, and he handles every situation in an unflappable manner."
But this is different. Nothing Manning has been through in his short NFL career can prepare him for what he's about to experience, and Accorsi knows it. He was the GM in Baltimore in 1983 when Denver's John Elway -- the Colts' first draft choice that year -- made his only appearance there at a sold-out Memorial Stadium.
It was the second regular-season game, and Accorsi will tell you that what he remembers most was Colts linebacker Vernon Maxwell driving Elway from the contest with a vicious second-half sack and backup Steve DeBerg stepping in to rally Denver to a 17-10 victory.
Only I'm not biting.

Could be. But I say, he'll have some fun.
Though the Chargers haven't lived up to last year's performance by a long shot so far, I would dearly love to see them win sunday. One thing I *am* sure of is that Manning will be getting a tough time of it from the fans.
Yeah, I'm a long time Charger fan.. Win or lose, I can't wait!
Go Chargers!
Because that's what he is.
