Less than a week after Renee Zellweger filed for an annulment from Kenny Chesney after a four-month marriage, he said he's doing well but that "there have been better times."
Chesney wants his fans to know he'll "be OK."
Chesney spoke with Country Weekly magazine Monday at his home outside Nashville. He said he hit everything hard this year -- a big tour, a record to finish, and, of course, "something new" in his personal life. He said it's been a huge year that "really ended up being too much."
Chesney is the reigning Country Music Association entertainer of the year, and his CD "When the Sun Goes Down" was named album of the year.
He finished his tour and said he's tired now, but added that by next year he'll be excited to get back to it. He also said that next year the focus will be on his music again and not on what he calls "the sideshow."
In court papers filed Sept. 14, Zellweger listed "fraud" as the reason for the breakup.
Zellweger released a statement Friday saying that "fraud" was "simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny's character."
"I would personally be very grateful for your support in refraining from drawing derogatory, hurtful, sensationalized or untrue conclusions," Zellweger said. "We hope to experience this transition as privately as possible."
In a statement released Friday by Chesney, the country music singer said, "This is an incredibly sad time. ... I just hope everyone can respect the privacy that I know Renee has already asked for."
Zellweger and Chesney married in a small, surprise Caribbean island ceremony in May after first meeting Jan. 15 at a benefit for tsunami victims.
Zellweger is known for her roles in such films as "Jerry Maguire," "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Chicago."
She won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in "Cold Mountain" in 2004.
Zellweger is 36. Chesney is 37. It was the first time either of them had been married.
Hey now...ya'll be nice to Kenny.
That beard got shaved in a hurry, didn't it?
It wouldnt surprise me if Kenny was gay. Watch his videos and really listen to his songs. I am betting that that's the fraud she speaks of.
Ain't no such thing as a gay cowboy!
He aint no cowboy!
Really? Ewwww!
The most masculine icons, in my opinion, are cowboys and soldiers.
Sexual preference as it relates to one's character. Interesting.
Being a homosexual is a kind of abnormality, but doesn't imply a character flaw. Marrying a woman in bad faith does. Renee, how can the word "fraud" not reflect on Kenny's character?
You know I thought it weird when I heard they were
married
she's so pasty white and he a "my tractor is sexy"
kind of guy...
Go figure!!!
Chesney has always given me the creeps - I have never understood his appeal. Of course, I am a woman and that may account for it.
Front or back? Makes a difference.
ROFL...it was the front if I remember correctly ;)
So their marriage is actually a business deal gone bad.
If it comes to be true that he is gay, his career is DONE.
Who???
Well the Village People can always use a cowboy. ;-)
I used to have a co-worker who was a big fan. In fact, I think she cyber-stalked him for a while. One day she came rushing out of her office with a case of the vapors, having found out that a hotel Chesney was staying at somewhere in the Carribean had a website advertising it as a gay resort. We teased her mercilessly about Chesney being gay thereafter. She's probably out on a window ledge somewhere now.
