Good Monday morning, all you FReeper baseball fanatics....Two weeks left in the season, and just about everything is wide open...so let's begin...
And meanwhile, Cubs Nation is grateful to hand off the legacy of 1969!
Yes. Who ever made this schedule deserves an award an a pay raise. Very meaningful baseball will be played in the last week of the season.
The White Sox are a joke in Chicago; they should just relocate. They've had the best record in the AL for most of the year and draw like 15,000 to 20,000 a game. And they play in a plastic ballpark, surrounded by a ghetto and there are no bars/restaurants to visit after the game. Chicago is a Cubs' town; probably at least 80% Cubs and 20% White Sox.
The whole existence of the White Sox is a complete joke. Just move to Montreal and be done with it.
Papa Bear, you Tribe-head ;)
If a game is needed to break a tie between Cleveland and the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central, the Indians would host.
Things are set up perfectly for them.
Montreal, where they can draw 4000. Brilliant. For the record - there have been many sell-outs on the SOuthside this season.
I would have thought so also..but last night's game is hard to figure..Phils got a gift, and gave it right back..they quit..they had a HUGE chance to open grounds on the Fish, AND close on the Braves, and they blew it..THat was a game they had to have.. and they didn't..
Man your team is imploding.
I will say this for them, they have a very truthful manager in Ozzie Guillen.
Cashman isn't sweating...he's NOT coming back to the Yankees..he already has solid offers....under the table, of course, to avoid tampering charges...he's not a GM...he's a glorified errand boy for Steinbrenner..how do you think he feels when he wake up and reads in the paper that Steinbrenner's press agent issues a release saying that the Boss has "ordered" Cashman to accompany the team on a road trip..or to come down to Tampa for a meeting..Nothing wrong with the request..you just don't announce it that way..It's actually a perfect out..because when the Yankees don't make the playoffs..Cashman can be the fall guy..he won't be offered a new deal, becuase they know he will turn it down..
ah, thanks..
Ozzie is just the absolute best - I loved the guy as a player, and he's been an even bigger hoot running the team.
But yeah - this collapse is just so un-freakin'-real. Nothing at all like the Cubs playoff diaster in '03 - that was realitively quick, and only against the eventual World Champs. My Sox are losing to everybody, and sooooo often. It's like a nightmare were 'the thing' keeps coming after you, and you can't get away from it fast enough, no matter what you do. Damn Sox will break your heart everytime.
White Sox, IMHO, will make the post-season...just squeaking by..not sure if as division or WC..just wondering..who would you rather see them play the first round..Angels or Red Sox?
It's the Black Sox Curse.
I think they match up better against the Red Sox. Certainly against the "Johnny Damon is hurtin'" Red Sox
*--said before Clemens won a world championship and also a couple Cy Youngs
Ah, OK, Cashman NOT coming back. Glorified errand boy!
If they put Pete Rose into Cooperstwon, they should put Shoeless Joe in as well...that will remove the curse..
For last season..he gets a pass on a few stupid comments....
Letting The Cards lunch on the Padres is a travesty at best. MLB should make it a requirement that a team achieve a minimum of a 0.500 record to make the playoffs, provided another club with >0.500 is available to fill the slot.
Interesting point. We might have a situation where a team actually wins the WS and have a losing record.
I do have to point out that the Pods have a winning record against the Cards this year. Anything goes in a short series. I haven't looked at pitching stats yet, but will get around to it.
Haven't the White Sox been without a championship since 1917? (And the Cubs not since '08?) Well who knows, if the Red Sox can break _their_ curse, anything can happen. But whether or not this is the year for the White Sox, we don't know
