You must be too young to remember the 10-10 tie. Same 2 teams. Back in the '60s, I believe.
Charlie Weiss done good here in New England but I'm with the other guy above who said he roots for whoever Notre Dame is playing. Football creates a vacuum anyway. But that's just MHO.

They were something like 3 for 3 in 4th down conversions. Weis got greedy.

Weis got greedy.

Yep! kick the FG, stop them, score a TD(like they did anyhow) and you win in regulation by 3pts.

Hey, even a blind pig finds an acorn now and then ";^)
But I still think football creates a vacuum.

I didn't have to watch it to know how the game was going--the neighbor acros the street could be heard a mile away, play by play.

Sorry about that...... :)

1966 I believe. Bubba Smith, later an all-Pro Defensive End for the Baltimore Colts, was a Senior at Michigan State at the time.

Great game. I was sitting there with my remote control switching back and forth between this game and the Miami-Clemson game which also went into overtime. If I were a Notre Dame fan I would be proud of my team and feeling pretty good about the future.

He probably did not have confidence in the kicker. It would have been about a 40 yard FG.

I would have gone for two and accepted the loss if I missed. Knute Rockne hated ties - "A tie is like kissing your sister."

Why wouldn't you have confidence in him kicking a 40yarder, but in OT you let him kick(and make) a 44 yarder.

The Fighting Irish (2-1) rallied from 21 points down in the third quarter to tie the score, but had to settle for a 44-yard field goal by D.J. Fitzpatrick on their OT possession and couldn't make it stand up. Brady Quinn passed for a school-record five touchdowns and a career-high 487 yards, the second highest total in Notre Dame history.

This hurt very much to be sure, but I still feel good about this team, this coach, and even this season. We put up one hell of a fight and that is something that has been missing from the Irish for a very long time. Last year's Ty-coached team would've given up after MSU went up 38-17; coming back to tie and forcing overtime would've been inconceivable. We still have a long way to go, but we're on the right track.
