Word For The Day, Friday, September 16, 2005 - A Half-baked Tribute To Miss Xenalyte

Posted on 09/16/2005 1:49:00 AM PDT by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of four "Words for the Day".

1. tenebrific [te-ne-BRIF-ic, adjective, from Latin tenebrae, meaning darkness]

1. gloomy

2. causing gloom or darkness

3. Sometimes used poetically to mean "sad"

2. lachrymose [LAK-ri-mose, adjective, from Latin lacrima meaning tear]

1. given to tears or weeping: suffused with tears: tearful

2. fit to bring tears or induce mournfulness: dismal, melancholy

3. lugubrious [pronounced luh-GOOB-bree-yus, adjective, from Latin lugere, to mourn]

1. Expressive of, marked by, or giving rise to grief or sorrow: mournful; especially exaggeratedly or affectedly mournful

2. Disposed to gloom: dismal

4. saturnine [SAT-er-nine, adjective, from Latin Saturnus meaning Saturn, perhaps related to its distance from the sun]

1. Born under or influenced astrologically by the planet Saturn: slow, sluggish

2. Of a moody or surly character: morose, sullen, mournful

3. Of or related to lead or lead poisoning

Example sentence:
Later. Maybe.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

The loon has another hearing at the end of the month-she is still incarcerated because no one is fool enough to make bail for her again. She will very likely get 180 days for parole violation for being drunk and disorderly when she was in that cat fight in a bar at one of the marinas. I heard from her recurrent enabler that she was going to lease her house to "a friend" for the time she is in the joint, and the thought strikes terror into my soul to think of what kind of a psycho or trailer trash that might be-I think I'm going to call my realtor friend to find out how much I can get selling my house and what is for sale on the next road, because if the loon leases the place out to her trashy friends, there goes the neighborhood...

I don't know-I'll have to ask about spook disclosure, because the odds are very much against us finding a non-haunted property around here. I seriously do NOT want to have some undesirable person living just up the road, even for 6 months-good grief, that is one of the reasons we left the city-but hubby says I'm over-reacting, and I know he won't sell and move unless there is a home and property available that is either just perfect, or is priced right so we can remodel it to make it perfect.

I'd still rather have a log home, but this location will be anything BUT perfect if trash moves in-property on this road will lose value with every wild party, every domestic incident and every call that county deputies answer-and most of us have paid a lot of money for our property and houses...

Hubby just called from the turn-off to the park road, and he said today was full moon Friday at his office-I'm off to light the grill and start cooking...

"Ninety-one percent of males who had ever had sexual contact with another male used a condom the last time they had sex, compared with 36 percent of men who never had sex with another male."

Miss Lawyer Lady, can you explain something to me?

Does this mean the "36 percent of men who never had sex with another male" didn't use a condom when they didn't have sex with another male?

To MSM:

Weep, weep, O dismal child, hearing the fair words
of a good man who refuses to fail when you want him to,
Let go a lugubruious sigh and a mournful wail,
Let your eyes be streaked with lachrymose trails,
rail the banshee in the tenebrific night,
For he smiles, and opens his hand to those in need
whom in your saternine way you longed to use as a tool
to make him suffer. O dismal child, wail,
for you who shroud yourself in the dark, and who make deals
with devils to get your way, have been sidestepped by light one more time.

Think of a girl in black with black lipstick and spikey hair.

Or Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice.

Yep. That's the current MSM look...at least metaphorically when they are whining about the prez looking good when they want him to look bad...

We will not go into what is hanging out on the back porch with CG.....

(This is, afer all, a public discussion, and what hangs out in the back yard stays in the back yard.....)

(Unless you're interested in Whatisatexasgirlhangingoutinthepoolinherbackyardatnight...)

Aha! Someone else is up at the weekday time on the weekend-I just automatically wake up at the same time, no matter what day it is, and this morning I was helped to do so by the noise of a fishing tournament. A good book and a comfortable chair will be my focus for a couple of hours now...

Thanks, T. today i want to go to my local needlework shop because they are having a sale, not that i NEED a blessed thing, as xsSIL and i always say. She is going to send me her shopping list, bc her local needlework shop closed and so she relies on mail order now.

Loosh got groomed yesterday and they bobbed his ears so that he looks like a pup now, he hadn't been groomed for awhile and so i wanted them to cut his hair some, but he looks scalped, the poor thing. i think xsteen is hurting his self esteem by making fun of his short ears!
