Top 7 Smells (vanity)
PA Times | 9/14/05 | Dr. Pissant

Posted on 09/14/2005 8:43:56 AM PDT by pissant

Researchers have long realized that our sense of smell contributes greatly to our overall satisfaction or disatisfaction with foods. It has also been established that smells can trigger memories, good or bad, of events long ago.

Here at the Pissant Research Center, we've now compiled the definitive list of smells that improve our moods and make getting out of bed each morning that much easier!

Top 7 Pleasurable Smells

1. Baked Pies:--It does not matter weather its apple, blueberry, or pumpkin. It triggers an instant drool reaction

2. Chocolate Chip Cookies:--Self evident

3. A Good Hoppy Beer:--The combination of the sweet smelling malt and the flowery hops...makes me want to crack one right now!!

4. A Woman's Perspiration:--Not the 3 days without a shower smell, rather the smell of a clean, lightly perfumed woman who is sweating for the best of reasons

5. Gasoline:--There's a reason why many people get brain damage from huffing. Plus it reminds us of sunny days mowing the lawn

6. Fresh Mowed Grass:--Often follows the smell of gasoline and the preceeds the smell of a Good Hoppy Beer

7. Pipe Tobacco:--Everyone had a relative that smoked a pipe, and in light concentrations, the stuff smells good enough to eat.

As for memories triggered by smells. I will never forget waking up in the tent, in the infield at Darlington, Labor Day weekend. The smell of coffee, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes wafting through the air was fabulous.

I have roses.
Growing up I had a J&P "Blue Girl" that was as close to an honest blue as a real 'natural' rose will get.

As for why it took until post 92.. I was late getting in here.
;-)

I also like the smell of damp forest right after the rain.
That still, heavy, pleasant 'comfortable' scent.

I had a large patch of gill-over-the-ground under an oak at a house I used to own. Whenever I mowed that area, the scent was divine.

That's okay, I used to have snap dragons, and lilac bushes while growing up.
I became allergic to lilac pollen later on.

So I love lilacs, had some odd colored lilacs, but I can't live near them or I'll sneeze for eternity.

Haven't been there yet.
Closest thing I can think of near me would be the stand of cedar I wanderd through over in Pennsylvania.
(I guess.)

*chuckle*

I am one to "stop and smell the roses" as well. What the heck. Some of the dark red ones have the best fragrance.

Had a white one, and a lavendar one.
The third one varied in color for some reason.

And then some neighborhood creep backed the neighbors van into it while trying to steal the van.

J&P's "Blue Girl" had a pleasant scent to it, not like the red roses, but not 'edge of consciousness' either.

Well,
I'm genetically anomsic (I don't have a sense of smell).

I occasionally can sense a change in air texture or weight and then when someone says "Can you smell that!" I say
"Yeah, sorta".....

Then I wait for them to tell me if it's good (like flowers) or bad (like gangrene). :)

Otherwise, if you come to my house and smell something bad, please tell me...thank you.
