I think the real reporting was done by the folks at Junkyard Blog, who dug up this famous tract:
Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000. Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states:
5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.
AP was first out with the "angled" (not directly overhead) view of the 260 yellow and white topped buses, as part of a story.
Freeper Gideon 7 put it all together with the "1.2 miles" montage of the Superdome-Transit Buses photo.
I tried to do my part by posting my own assembly of pictures and text all over the internet!

The school buses are controlled by the parish school board, not by the mayor. You did great work.
Today I detected that Rush was reading from the announcement timelines that are posted all over FR.

I first mentioned it in
this thread in
this post at 9:57:56 AM CDT on 09/01/2005. After posting it there, I tipped it off to Drudge using his on-line form and it showed up several hours later on his site. I don't know if I had anything to do with it, but FWIW that's my timeline.

I heard it reported from at least two sources, that New Orleans had legitimate access to approximately 2000 buses... All of them in the Metropolitan Area.
NOT the estimated 400 to 600 buses we've been talking about..
If proved true -- this will be an 81mm coming in through the bunker's smoke hole for the Democrat bitchers...
2000 buses x 60 evacuees per bus = 120,000 EACH TRIP!
As soon as I can find hard copy confirmation, I'll post.
