Hiz honor's gang exchanging 'yo be da man' high fives and passing the crack pipe?
All I know is that some bars in the French Quarter reopened (according to one person, some didn't even close) by late Monday afternoon after the hurricane passed. For those (like Andrew Sullivan) who say the devastation was obvious and immediate, I say BS. Even media reporters like Sheppard Smith moved from their balconeys to the streets as most the people around him celebrated another close-call.
In fact, until the levees broke, it was Biloxi Mississippi (and other coastal communities) that had suffered the worst structural damage. It wasn't until almost 24-hours later that New Orleans realized how desperate their situation was. Sadly, even city officials dropped their guard as that "dry" time could've been used to get people out of the city.
