Teenager dies after crashing new motorcycle
A Cooper City teenager died Saturday when his motorcycle crashed in Davie.
Stephen Brown, 19, was riding his brand new Honda motorcycle west on Stirling Road near University Drive about 12:45 p.m. when he lost control of it.
Brown tried to straighten out the bike, but he overcompensated and was thrown into the eastbound lanes. He died at the scene, said Davie police Lt. Bill Bamford.
Witnesses told police Brown was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic before the accident, Bamford said. A helmet was found at the scene, but police said they did not believe Brown was wearing it when the crash occurred.
After the motorcycle skidded into the eastbound lanes, drivers of two nearby cars tried to avoid hitting it and got into an accident themselves.
No one was hurt in that crash.
The "flip side" of the coin is that one could take an experienced, competent, and trained motorcyclist and put him on two different bikes back-to-back:
If that rider is forced into a situation where he/she must brake, accelerate, or maneuver on short notice, the new sportbike would actually be safer than a regular motorcycle because of its ability to handle those rapid inputs gracefully and accurately.
- a new sportbike with huge brakes, sophisticated suspension, and sticky radial tires
- a typical cruiser-style bike with average components
Simply calling sportbikes more dangerous than other types of motorcycles is silly. I believe the example above would illustrate the point we've been trying to make in that increased performance can also mean increased safety.

ACtually the SV650 is not really a squid bike, its probably the closest thing to a UJM out there these days and is an overall outstanding value.
Squid is an attitude, not a bike type. I see idiots on all makes and models. Is a bubba on a ninja without a helmet in flipflops and shorts any less squidly than a a similary dressed couple on a Harley with do rags instead of helmets?
I've ridden and owned most makes, including HD. Until recently HD bikes were fairly low tech and lacked a number of important advances in MC engineering. They are starting to catch up after the other brands started taking a bite out of the cruiser market. They are a much better bike than they used to be, but they are still not the best in class out there.
Nope, the squid is the idiot that's exceeding the speed limit, doing stoppies, popping wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic etc etc etc, on public roads. Ie, 90% of sport bike riders if the riders in Dallas are any indication. I don't care how the rider is dressed.

The amusing thing is that you're serious. I'll let this one just go because I think we both know that we'll never, ever, ever, see eye to eye on this one. You somehow think that the Japs make better cruisers, and as far as I'm concerned they're just second rate clones, with an emphasis on clone. I still wouldn't turn down a Nomad though, but that's a fit issue and not a quality issue.
