Spktyr (I think) clued me in on them.
supposedly the basic configuration is available for about $250.00, but so far I am damned if I can find such a unit for sale at that price

When it's good enough for the Marine Corps -- it's good enough for everyone........I still don't like the Osprey...

Actually in all reality for a first time firearm owner I'd suggest one of the EAA Bounty Hunter II 12 or 20 gauge double barrels and a simple S&W revolver in 357 magnum that could use 38 ammo if so desired.
Easy to operate and maintain for the novice owners....

PVS-4 . . . what memories! We built thousands of them at Varo in Garland, TX. Actually most of my work was with the earlier first gen PVS-2, I think it was. One time there was a huge manhunt going on out west of Ft Worth and a Texas Ranger came by the plant and asked if we could put one on his AR15. I grabbed one up off the line, boresighted it roughly in the hall, and sent him on his way.
The bad guys surrendered about midnight that night. A couple of days later the Ranger brought the scope back. I asked him if it did him any good. He said not directly, but he thought he had saved the lives of a few head of livestock, because every time a lawman heard a sound in the bushes, they came to him to check it out. The scopes were big novelties to civilians back then.

Thanks for building a fine product. I mean that THANK YOU VERY MUCH !
Your work saved more lives than ya know....I have used and carried the PVS 2 and 4 and own a 4. Well done friend...well done !
Eternally grateful for what those tools did for those of us in harms way.
THANKS !!

I actually wrote a post for the first timer a few years back.
It's called "So You Want To Buy A Gun". I suggested a simple shotgun and a .357 revolver. Great minds think alike, eh?

I bought another one new at the gun show last month for $269.
I think CDNN Investments still has some for about that price.

And yes, that was me. They work acceptably well for skeet, but they're hard to beat for combat weapons.
The US Army liked it so much, the new underbarrel shotgun for the M4 uses the same identical magazine and is loosely based on it. :)

Yep if I was running this company I'd make it a rule. Evey household must have a
minimum of one 12 ga shotgun and 25 rounds of #4 buckshot. I don't care if it's an old H&R single shot topper or a Benelli M1 etc . Have at least ONE !
I remember that the little single shot toppers were sold by some as a burgler boomer in the 70's. It was cut down to legal plus 18.5 inches which made it really short and easy to handle indoors with it's overall lenght. With a spare stock sock of 8 rounds it was the most basic of home security tools IMO. The price was even down below 100 dollars if my memory serves me correctly.
One friend had one with a dense duckbill shot "spreadder" that pretty much made a 3ft x 8 ft pattern at 7 yards. Cleared a hallway really well he said...... One of those and a revolver backed by a barking puppy er two would make one sleep easy IMO.
Stay safe !

Mossbergs are same quality as winchester and Remington for $100 less.
12 year olds should get 20 gauge.
Some people are faster with pumps than with semiautos after some skeet practice. Older Winchesters which are very good fire automaticaly after each pump as trigger is depressed.

I'm more a fan of the Mossberg myself. I've got 2 Mossbergs and 1 Winchester. The Winchester is used for hunting, and the Mossbergs are for anything and everything.
