That still does not give prerogative of the President over individual state governments. And it DOES NOT override Posse Comitatus. Its illegal in some states to allow Martial Law within its borders.

And if you reread I was calling you an idiot for calling for impeachment.

I didn't call you names. I provided you with pictures of all sorts of military involvement in posts 16, 25, 24, and 40. There are plenty more pictures, if you would like me to post them as well. In fact, I found pictures of the National Guard passing out supplies to people in Miami who were initially struck by the much-weaker, earlier Katrina as ealry as Aug. 27.

The military has been very involved since even before Katrina hit (In fact, it was the National Guard that helped people get into the Superdome). They were lined up and ready to respond, knowing that whether Katrina hit FL, AL, MS, LA, or TX, they would have to help people. And they have.

If it were not for our armed forces, the people of NO would have no hope. The police have little leadership, have not been prepared for such an amazingly hugh problem, and have had (I think I heard) 90% of their resources (not people, but supplies, cars, ammo, etc.) obliterated by the storm and flooding. They are doing what they can, but are basically helpless in the midst of this catastrophe. Yet, our military is there and has been there for the people in the affected areas. They may not be featured by the media, but they are working hard—and have been since the beginning.

Agree, I think every1's jumping down your throat a bit too fast.

Don't be too surprised here on FR. Knowing how half of them beat on newcomers posting "lib-like" things as liberals, or even worse, for posting ignorantly as if they should know all about how user-unfriendly FR works in 1 day, this wouldn't surprise me too much. ;-) Newcomers who do such things are freqently labeled as "trolls" mercilessly, I must say. I think they scare half the newcomers away. Innocent 1s.

I didn't feel your post was particularly "threatening". Altho I was a bit disgusted by the "vote Dem" comment later. :-O

"Maybe he thinks we should have dropped the airborne into the flooded streets, so they could stand on the rooftops with the stranded citizens."

The only TV news I can get here is CNN International, what can I say?
Anyway, this total MORONIC CNN guy was interviewing Gov. of MS and whining about why massive US troops and NG was not "prepositioned" in advance of the storm.
The Gov. noted that the guy was a pure idiot and got angry with him.
No wonder CNN is in the tank.

I travel the area frequently and know several military installations in the area.

Did it ever occur to you that those military installations might be as badly hit and damaged by Katrina as the rest of New Orleans?

It also takes time to amass troops. Then come up with a strategy or plan to hold off the bad guys while refugeees are moved elsewhere.

That plan would encompass one "place", while there are thousands of "places" needing help.

Let the Engineers come up with a way to brace broken levees. Get the water level down. Then send in the troops to cordon, contain and evacuate.

Jack.

Very accurate description of FR, Rebel. Most of the "newbies" here have been around a while. You simply can't go by the "member since" date on their profile. They are only using a new name because they've been banned for suggesting that Bush needs a haircut.

That very well may leave a permanent mark! ;D!

Why all the defensiveness over a legitimate question?
Remember way back when and someone told you there was no such thing as a stupid question?

I voted for Bush. There was no choice. But I don't worship him. His performance in failing for 5 years to protect the country from the flood of illegals on the Southern Border is by itself alone grounds for removal from office. His performance and slow decision making regarding New Orleans is equally bad. You are entitled to your opinion as am I. The record of Executive Orders, Legislation, and US Code, it too long to completely list here but he does have not only the authority but the obligation to declare Martial Law when all governmental functions below the Federal level have failed and citizens lives are at risk and anarchy prevails. New Orleans meets all the requirements and while the voters of Louisanna (and New Orleans if polls are ever again opened there) will have their say regarding the Governor and Mayor after the fact, right now it is important that someone establish law and order there. Nothing, S&R, Evacuation, Food/Water Distribution, or Levee repair, can proceed at the pace needed until that is done. Given the failure of local police and the absense of effective National Guard efforts to gain control, just what would you do? Martial Law was implied though not explicitly stated yesterday by Chertoff in a news conference. My concern is they are afraid to exercise proper control. I leave it to you to expound on why. I have my own opinion which I'm quite sure you would not agreee with. I'm going to leave this tread to those who think we are (Bush is)doing a great job in NOLA and return to the news of people dying, armed thugs in the streets, police themselves looting stores, armed home invasions, unprotected and unevacuated hospitals under siege by armed thugs, volunteers unable to man rescue boats, MSM crews evacuating out of fear of their safety, etc.

It's always treated as trite when one says they will not vote Republican "next time" but I predict if we can't come up with someone the calibre of Haley Barbour next time around, we will lose no matter who the DemRats run. McCain, Hagle, Gulianni et al will not get it done. There is a lot to lose here. ..And I think Bush's performance on this issue is far worse than just getting a BJ in the Oval office. IMHO. Have a nice day.

By the way I am not a newcomer/newbie. I have been a member of FR since day one under two different ID's. My current ID is dated June 2003, my previous ID was dated long before.

I ask the question simply not knowing anything about military response in this situation. Also watch the WH briefing a few minutes ago and all questions were along the same lines as mine. Since I am not there and do not rely on the MSM's info I thought the experts here would be able to give knowledgeable answers, instead I felt like I have just arrived at the annual JackAss fest.

I am no Bush-bot, but his performance has been exactly what is needed. He declared, 2 days prior to landfall that Mississippi and Loiusiana were disaster areas, he told the Governors of all states affected prior to it that the full force of the US Govt would be available to them. They prepositioned everything needed, it is not the Federal Govrnments fault that Loiusianas government isnt apt.

The Governor didnt prepare for looters, the city government didnt provide for powerless communications, Its frustrating to watch the ineptness, but your giving way more power to the Federal Government then it has.

Nope you just fell into the pot of Bush Borscht. The guy has some good points but he isn't wonderful and anything that smacks of criticism draws undeserved fire from the worshipers.

Wrong. It's called Martial Law, a prerogative of the President.

Wrong again Miserable breath ........It's the prerogative of the state and local officials.
