Well, they are not bad for zipping around a city. In many cities, they are the primary mode of transport. Honda makes some of the better performing and better looking models.

Don't do it. You are too vulnerable in those things.
Worried about gas? Call your reps and tell them we need more refineries and exploration in the U.S.A.!

I bought an Elite 80 and gas used to go real far on that thing. Try the Elite 80 instead before buying something so expensive.

Ah, but your medical insurance will make up most of the huge bills you'll incur when run over. Just keep an eye on that fuel savings.

They are great, especially if you live in a mild climate. I rent one whenever I vacation in Italy or Greece where they are used extensively. Go for it.

Not entirely true... I never got cut off on mine and I stayed away from trucks as all bikers should anyway.

I had one, they are really dangerous in wet weather (no wipers on the helmut and slick tires too). People like to steal them, mine was stolen twice.
They handle well enough and have enough hp too.
Don't ever ride double. They handle very poorly then.

Actually the newest Honda scooter has 582 CC. Quite a scooter! Your gas miliage would suffer with that one. I would like to get one of the 125 to 150 cc machines. I think the new styling and the storage space on a lot of them is great. Get one and to H**l with the wife, right?:) Just kidding, better at least get her to agree first!

As long as you're not getting gay on it with an Italian, I'd say go for it.

Depending on how far you have to go, how about a Honda Ruckus? (small engine, not made for highways) Great on gas, cruises comfortably at about 35 mph. Plus, it doesn't have the Euro/Gay look about it....

That's cool too. It looks like my cell phone. Who makes that?

So, what's the FReeper take on gettin' on a scooter? Gay, Too Italian or sensible for urban conveyance?? There is no such thing as "too Italian."
There is only "not Italian enough."
