I got a 2, 3, 4, 18. We are nip and tuck.
This getting kind of interesting. :)
Coulda-mighta-shoulda. Them Wheels ain't falling off yet (2-3-4-7 :-)
I definitely need to hit the local tracks more often. A certain #33 late model driven once and for sale was sitting up by the grandstands. That would be the #33 Port-A-John/Bass Pro Shops/Aaron's Dream Machine driven by Kerry Earnhardt in the Miller Lite Nationals. I would put the owner's web site up, but it seems to be down at the moment.
This year, we have 40 full-time teams in Cup, one that skipped a race, another one that skipped 5 races, and then the part-timers.
The Wayans are going to need a heap of luck. Unless they can get technical help from Hendrick, there's nobody that can spare the help (Evernham is putting together a 3rd full-time team, Gibbs and Roush are already spoken for, and Gibbs and everybody else have Sirius problems putting together more than one competitive team, if they can put one out on the track).
We thought you wouldn't notice...
Now that you mention it, the car's running just a tick free :-)
And I know what a wheel about to fall off feels like. About a dozen years ago, a 1-ton GMC van I was driving all of a sudden picked up a real loose feel. No sooner did I get the thing on the (raised) shoulder of the freeway than the left half-axle came off, complete with tire, wheel, and brake drum.
It must not have had full floating axles and the bearing retainer ring came loose on the axle and let the axle slide out. A full floater wound not have done that...
Driver | Points | Behind | Comments |
Tony Stewart | 3570 | N/A | He's cooled off; no wins in the last 3 races. </sarcasm_wishful_thinking> |
Greg Biffle | 3361 | -209 | The first of many drivers thanking Brain France for The Chase. |
Jimmie Johnson | 3312 | -258 | JJ to Knaus tomorrow - "Can we please just get through Richmond without losing any more spots?" |
Rusty Wallace | 3257 | -313 | That Blue Deuce is looking strong. Is he sure he wants to retire? |
Mark Martin | 3149 | -421 | About 400 points of Smoke's lead disappears in less than a week. |
Kurt Busch | 3114 | -456 | The only way he won't be in The Chase is if Ryan Newman kneecaps him and then dominates Richmond with a win and the most laps led. |
Jeremy Mayfield | 3073 | -497 | Up 145 points on 11th with 1 win. Will be in if 4 drivers drop out before him, 3 drivers drop out before him if he leads a lap, or if he leads the most laps. 13th-best Richmond average finish in the last 5 years (9 races possible) among active drivers (15.9 average, 1 win, 3 top-5s, 4 top-10s) |
Carl Edwards | 3014 | -556 | Up 86 points on 11th, and holds the tiebreaker against everybody except Flash. Will clinch no matter what with a 19th, a 21st with a lap led, or a 24th with the most laps led. 8th-best at Richmond lately (13.5, 1 top-10, but only 2 races) |
Matt Kenseth | 2939 | -631 | The second-hottest driver in NASCAR now is up 11 points on 11th and has 1 win. Will clinch on his own with a win or a 3rd with the most laps led. 6th-best at Richmond lately (12.1, 1 win, 2 top-5s, 6 top-10s) |
Jamie McMurray | 2929 | -641 | Up a single point on 11th and has no wins. Must win to clinch without help. 18th-best at Richmond lately (19.6, 2 top-10s, 1 DNF in 5 races) |
Ryan Newman | 2928 | -1 (to 10th) | No wins, but hoping he can return to form at Richmond. 4th-best at Richmond lately (10.9, 1 win, 4 top-5s, 5 top-10s in 7 races) |
Jeff Gordon | 2899 | -30 | Good news - he holds all the tiebreakers, so all he has to do is catch 10th, not pass 10th. Bad news - Richmond is far from his favorite track. 16th-best at Richmond lately (17.7, 2 top-5s, 5 top-10s, 2 DNFs) |
Elliot Sadler | 2877 | -52 | It's the candy fleeing the hood at the first Michigan race that did him in. Has 0 wins. 29th-best at Richmond lately (24.6, 1 top-10, 1 DNF) |
Dale Jarrett | 2812 | -117 | And the other RYR car is little better. Has 0 wins. 28th-best at Richmond lately (24.2, 1 top-5, 1 top 10, 1 DNF) |
Kevin Harvick | 2798 | -131 | Same spot as last year, a lot more points to try to make up, but does have 1 win. 12-best at Richmond lately (15.7, 2 top-5s, 3 top 10s) |
Joe Nemechek | 2794 | -135 | For those thinking about a Mayfield-like performance, I'll point out that Mayfield was 2 spots and 80 points closer going into Richmond last year. Has 0 wins. 17th-best at Richmond lately (19.6, 1 win, 1 DNF) |
Brian Vickers | 2755 | -174 | If either McMary or Rocket start Saturday night, he's officially done just like everybody behind him. Worse, he's the first driver who can't catch 11th next week. |
Instead of coming out of Californica with a solid placing and no worries going into the last race of the 'Pre-Season'...
As Jeff said after the race, 'We sucked'...I couldn't agree more...at least he still has a chance, I can't even think of the anguish for the #8 team and others who are going to be chasing around in circles for the next 11 races...it's got to be painful!
Oh well... G
I wonder when YaaaHoo will get the scores up?
About Yahoo, I'm wondering the same thing. By my unscientific math, I should be up to 3rd right now.
HOw in the heck does one calculate what Jeff MUST do at Richmond next week? Does he just have to finish?, must he finish in the top 15? Ten???
I can never figure out this points crud...
G
Because there's just so many possibilities (there's 4 drivers that can fall out of the top 10 and 6, including Gordon, that can climb back in), I'll stick with the simple. He'll need some help. If he wins, and both McMurray and Newman finish no better than 8th, he's in. If, at the end of Richmond, he's in any sort of tie for 10th, he's in because he would hold the tiebreaker with at least 3 wins (nobody else can end up at 10th with more than 2).
And another thing...
WHO made the decision to stay out and NOT get any tires...if it was Looser Loomis I hope he's FIRED!
Coming to grips with reality today...Unnnggghhhhh!!!
Was out of pocket all day yesterday. Just heard on the radio that Kurt is donating all his winnings to hurricane relief.
Just getting back to this after doing some labor on Labor Day on the "Dale Trail". (Concord and Kannapolis changed the number on Highway 136 to Highway 3 and re-named it Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. There's banners hanging from the street lights that say "Dale Trail" Gotta love it!)
Richmond ought to be exciting. My daughter and son-in-law will be there for both races. Hopefully, they will see Gordon make it into the chase.
The 24 team really needs to figure out what is wrong and fix it. I really like Kyle Busch, Brian Vickers, and Jimmie Johnson, but something is wrong when they come out ahead of Gordon race after race.
