Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question. There is a lot of commentary now about refinery capacity, or more accurately, the lack thereof.
Does anyone know if additional refineries were part of the President's energy policy bill that was shelved by the Democrats?
Yup...He offered incentives and suggested the building of refineries at closing/closed military bases..
Not a bad idea
Wasn't there a thread or something about the President using closed military bases for refineries? Sounds like a smart move - maybe now we can overcome the leftist environmentalist wackjobs and do what's best for the country and her people's well being.
I'm afraid it's too late, but it should have been mandated that for national security purposes, that oil companies should have to double their refining capacity.
Now we have the impetus with this catastrophe to nullify the moonbats influence and make some wise policy decisions.
No more cheap gas ! I guess I wont buy that boat after all.
uh, yeah, like they don't want to do that already. Guess what is standing in their way?
Article from CNN on Bush's refinery proposal...

Too late for New Orleans and the current situation, but it should be pointed out (repeatedly) that we've been trying to construct additional refineries to alleviate this kind of issue, but that the Democrats were holding it up for political purposes.
Payback is a bitch.
Excellent, thank you Parrot, that's what I was looking for.
...the the government (our tax dollars) would have to go for that purpose. Not that I agree with your prescription...
It takes YEARS to build a refinery. Even without the courts interfering.
You're right, but the President's energy policy has been waiting YEARS for approval. If it had been implimented 4 years ago, we might not be in this position today.
