Ya think that if I can fill my Hummer, my employer could fill my 777?Not exactly your point, but if I remember correctly where you work, you probably have a higher net worth, and certainly a higher credit rating than your employer.

BTTT.
Looting is a direct assault on everything America stands for.
And yes, it takes a lot of effort to stay poor in America.

I suppose that is true, but that deserves its own rant, and it wont happen until I'm gone.

I agree.
It's nauseating to see that smile and attitude as they walk by the cameras with their carts full of appliances, electronics....actually, anything they can pick up!
And they do this while volunteers, military, esp the Coast Guard & others are working their hearts out to find and save lives.
What a contrast.
But you know what....
...some of these same looters will be the first to blame Bush and stick out their hands for financial help.

I took a lurker's stance on the earlier looting threads, but I came to the conclusion that in the absence of power, police, and any stores open, if I were trapped there, I'd gather food and water and supplies that were needed, especially if any stored supplies I had were destroyed or under water. In a practical sense, in the hours and first days after the hurricane, there is no economy, no other way to survive but to make do with what you can find. Just as the city government claimed the right to commandeer buildings and vehicles for emergency use, so might the people need to do what they can to get through it.
But in the absence of an economy or electricity, I'd see little value in a television, either. Nothing justifies the wholesale stealing of electronics, jewelry and valuables. It's an interesting study in human behavior, to be sure.

As usual I agree with you 100%. If more people knew how things were elsewhere they would be far more appreciative of the US.
