I turned fifty this past year....and the wanderlust has me firmly in its grips. I'm starting to plan for retirement (very early I hope) and am pretty sure an RV is in my future.
I'm still unsure as to Class A or Class C. I would welcome any input based on personal experiences.
Also....I plan to make this puppy, my actual home. So, it would be interesting to hear from anyone in regards to budgets, operating costs on a year round basis, lifestyle, downsides...upsides...etc.
As a matter of fact...I would appreciate any input, or advice, at all.
Quick background on me. NJ resident. I'm a former solo backpacker and section hiked the AT, The Jockey Hollow, every trail in NJ and most in NY, just about all in Pa. I figure I got about 8,000 miles underfoot.
I mention this, because, while not adverse to campgrounds , I don't mind the adventerous route.
Logistic info would be extremely helpful.
Finally, I am planning this as a solo venture....but wouldn't mind taking a babe along with me. That was not a solicitation.
Do they make hybrids? LOL.
Stop what you're doing and fill up the tanks now!
You're fifty?
Dang, that's old!!!!!!
Winnebagos are great. I know people who work at the main plant just up the road...
Figuring satellite.
now Clark, thats an rrrrv. she's a beauty ain't she. (betcha can't wait to pump out the sh#tter.) ;^)
>>>You know you're gonna have to give up cable, I couldn't do it, good luck.
You can get 'em with DSS dishes that will track the satellites while you're on the move...
I'm visiting you first!!!
Come on down - I'll take you to Big Ed's Pizza.
So that means...what?? You getting me a discount...or are you working on a finder's fee?
If you can afford it go with a class a and make it a pusher they are easier to work on.
Get a dish setup and a laptop w/ cell phone hookup. (Ya gotta be able to FReep from anywhere)
When I was a tiny tot we had a neighbor in the trailer park who was constantly talking about and doodling plans for a trailer with an engine. His name was Jim Baker and Winnabago ripped off his ideas. He sued them for millions.
I have always recalled that memory whenever I hear the name Winnabago.
Rent RV's every chance you get. Even look int
Take weekend trips, long vacation trips, and outings. If you burn out of RV living while renting, you have save a grundle of money. A couple of years of renting every other weekend will tell you if you really like it.
Actually, right now would be a good time to get one, as they have a bit of a surplus of inventory - I don't have connections good enough for discounts...
Buy used. They depreciate like crazy. I have friends who bought a BlueBird for half of retail with only 8,000 miles on it. Many very elderly buy new and have health/death issues that prevent enjoying the RVs for very long. From what I've seen, RVs depreciate faster than mobile homes. The good news is that buying used one can find real bargains. Good luck.
rent one, take a long trip. If you like it buy.
I refuse to believe that anyone in the South Great as it must be can come up with anything less than toasted white bread topped with tomato soup, under some undefinable string cheese.
I'm a Polack TB...and even I can make a better pizza without having to deep fry it.
My parents go half time. They absolutely love it. We've been trying to talk them into going to Alaska, but, it's their winter getaway. They go to Texas, Louisanna, Mississippi, Florida, Arizona, California, etc. I don't know all the operating details, just throwing my two cents in. They're 73 and 76 so, they've got a couple years left. I'll bet you can get some satelite package for freeping. I can see it now, a daily thread, "On The Road With Focault's Pendulum".
