The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmm. It depends. Sometimes to be true to the character you just have to roll with it. Heroine is an archetype - a slave to fashion (she gets over it... right before the world ends), always striving for an unachievable ideal. So I don't have the details in mind just yet, just the cliche. Hero acts the part of an scoundrel (but only because he's been hurt in the past) and I have a hollywood actor in mind for description purposes.

"Lang" is lame; she'd have to call him "L.T." or something. I've decided to name Ethan's father Langston; it suits.

"L.T." could tie in nicely with her military background. She'd have to smile at calling someone that.

She'll be wearing her "bird suit" - a nickname her partner made up for her black power suits. She's tall and leggy and reminds him of a waterbird like a heron. He calls her "Tweety" and when she's on the trail solving a crime will declare "She saw the putty tat!" She of course, doesn't share his love of ancient cultures and finds him bewildering. She will have ditched the high heels in order to participate in the suspensful chase/pursuit scene near the end... right before they fail to save the world.

So...she has coordinating running shoes?

Hmmm....wearing black. The world must end sometime between Labor Day and Memorial Day.

Mornin'

Mary Varina came walking down the street with her three daughters, Venti, Latte and Pumpkin Spice in tow.

She was hot. Blasted hot.

Legs. Hair. You know the story.

49,971 words to go...

Hey, you can't start writing yet! It's not even October!

Must get caffeine through bloodstream quickly. I have an early morning class presentation.

Taking advantage of the storm's cover, The Toaster had made its way out of the open kitchen window. It lurked in the shadows near the house, its interior glowing eerily.
