The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And Tom Baker... Who I also enjoyed as Puddleglum in the BBC adaptation of "The Silver Chair", in the Narnia series

I always thought he looked a little like Bob Dylan.

It's a romance ... the male heroes are unbelievable by definition, and the sex must be overdone!

(Though, I swear, those two go after it like it's going out of style ...!)

But don't you like Roarke a little better since reading Vengance? It humanized him a bit ... and, hey, Vengance is the first appearance of McNab, who's just a doll!

If you somehow get your hands on any of the "blue lady" covers of the first few (up through Holiday, as I recall), hang onto them ... they're worth two or three times cover price, I believe, over on eBay.

Don't miss the short stories, and the novella Remember When, written by Nora Roberts and J. D. Robb.

And, just so you know, the newest novel, Memory In Death, comes out in January. One of the best things about the series is the twice-a-year publication schedule!

LOL - must be why I avoid romance novels! And I was told these were mysteries. :P Oh well. Anyhoo, Barnes & Noble is one of my errands today. Will get the next three to tide me over until Wed when I'll got to B&N in Las Cruces, NM to tide me over for my trip.

We're watching Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

We saw that a couple evenings ago. I thought it was well done and really enjoyed it. Big'ol isn't as silly as I am and isn't as fond of British humor and so he found it rather dull.

For breakfast? I thought I was strange liking enchiladas for breakfast.

Hmmm, come to think of it, enchiladas would hit the spot.

Morning OT, indeed they are. They've been cutting on the shingle oak again and I'm about to head out with bucket to retrieve said cutting from all over the front lawn.

The octoberfest is in town, complete with carnies. sigh. But that's the end of the 'festival season till next may/june and that's a good thing. Litter, debris and debitage are well within acceptable limits given the 'hugh' numbers of folks that were in attendance over the last two nights.
