When I was a kid my Dad would put hot dogs (uncooked) into a big jar and fill it up with vinegar and set it out on the kitchen countertop. 10-14 days later he would take out a couple of the aforementioned hot dogs and eat them with crackers and a cold bottle of beer. I tried them and still make them to this day, only I add some sliced onion and jalapenos. I have yet to find anyone else who likes them, but then that's a good thing, more for me.

My dad did the same thing with pickerel. He'd pickle it. Pickled Pickerel. And then he'd make me watch Das Boot. Dubbed and subtitled versions.

I'm getting nostalgic.

No kidding...I'm going to try that. I love those pickled sausages in a bottle. Just normal uncooked weenies, apple cider vinegar and onion....I might get scared and put it in the frig. I wonder if that would stop the pickle process.
