OK..fellow baseball fans..a very exciting week..much to discuss...especially for those who love/hate the NY teams....so let's begin...
Of the four starters who have been pitching all season, Clement's got a good W-L record, but other than that, none of the ERA's are spectacular, and none of the other W-L records are attention grabbing.
Plus, it doesn't give me much confidence in the Red Sox rotation when an overweight, 43 year old drunk has the second best W-L record among all Boston starters.
We have four solid, consistent starters, plus Schilling, who I for one am not gonna bet against!
If the Hefty Lefty wins again we will have four 10-game winners, perhaps the first team to reach that status. Plus Schilling.
Yes, we rely on scoring runs. But we're the best offensive team in baseball. Our starters are a good fit for that, giving consistent innings and performance and keeping us in the game.
RJ signed through 2007 at about $20 mill per annum..sorry..
Thanks for the report, maybe Steinbrenner and Lucky2 need to have a little chat as to the shapre of our pitchers/bullpen etc. Ugh!
Hopefully the Red Sox will sweep the Royals then put it to Detroit at home and perhaps put a bigger cushion between them an N.Y.
Hey, I'm not faulting their effort or accomplishments. But if the guys hitting the DL are their starting pitchers, you probably have a whole 'nother story.
And any line up with Al Pujols cleaning it up is hardly "makeshift".
Cardinals
Carpenter 17-4
Mulder 14-6
Morris 13-5
Suppan 12-9
Boston is 23rd in ERA with a team ERA of 4.81
Boston is 24th in hits allowed
They still have a National League?
The AL has done more to hurt traditional baseball than anything else.
Yes, yes, I'm sure you realize that it's foolish to compare AL and NL ERAs. The only pitchers the Sox would be carrying into the postseason with ERAs above 4.81 are Gonzalez, Schilling, and Foulke -- and while counting on Schilling and Foulke to be in top form would be foolish, counting on them to perform at 6+ ERAs as they have to date would be equally dumb considering the quality of pitchers they are. You won't get to face Blaine Neal or Mike Remlinger in the postseason -- they'll be hanging out with Scott Rolen.
I guess you were none too happy when white noise barely paused on their ALCS victory tour to sweep the Cards last year :)
Well, let's put that to the test. The American League has given baseball the Designated Hitter. The National League has given baseball:
Now, tell me, which league has done more harm to traditional baseball?
Bet I've been to more Playoff and Series games here in STL than you have attended in Boston.
By the way, how many World Series have the Red Sox won? Just for the record?
The American League.
In the most bizarre story of the year, IMHO, Pete Gammons of ESPN is reporting that the Mets put Kaz Matsui on waivers, he was claimed, and the Mets pulled him back...
Six. As opposed to nine by the Cardinals. I'm not sure I see the argument here. How about, for the record, how many WS wins to the Red Sox have in the past 20 years? Cardinals?
Don't get me wrong; I have a great deal of respect for the Cardinals both historically and their current team. They're clearly the best team in the majors right now, no matter what any White Sox fans try to claim, and, despite what happened in 2004, the Cardinals would be the last team I would want the Red Sox to face in the WS.
Who claimed him?
They don't release the info..
Cashman deserves every bit of vitriol he gets from the Boss for his little stunt last year, when he told New York magazine that his dream job was to be GM of the Boston Red Sox when they finally won it all! He is the highest-paid GM in baseball (over 1 million a year), and he knew what Steinbrenner was like before taking the job. I've got no sympathy.
