I think it's just possible that your Cards could clinch ( or be very close to it) just before Mets come into StL for a 4 game series in Sept...Last three nights have been FUN for me..worth staying up late for...and Pedro tonught..and they could sweep the Giants next..

While it is within the realm of possibility it would take the Cards winning 12 in a row and the Stro's losing 12 in a row, along with Milwaukee losing 7 during that stretch.

Not likely, but fun to think about.

Ugh, are you watching this slaughter in Kansas City? Looks like Curt isn't ready for prime time yet... :-(

Curt is burnt toast. His career is over. I hope he just retires and the team hires him into management or something. I can't imagine he'd want to experience the embarrassment of pitching like Way Back Wasdin week after week. He's a proud man. Thanks for what you did for us, Curt, but it's time to face reality. You didn't suck as a closer because you couldn't get in the right frame of mind. It was because your ankle is not healthy and probably never will be.

I wouldn't totally give up on Schilling. Yet.

That said, you're right about him being toast for this year. Shut him down. Let the ankle heal properly and see if he has anything left in the tank for next year.

Whoa, I'm disappointed about Curt's performance lately, but I don't know about his career being over just yet...

My head hurts after that last Royals game. I dont see Curt coming back to start the way he used to any time soon. Without him we are doomed in the playoffs - although maybe we wont have to worry about the playoffs if they keep losing to ' power house ' teams like the Royals.
The very thought of having the Yankees overcome us in the end of the season makes me sick.

Cards 6 PiRats 3

Magic # = 23

And were off to see the Nats

As I said earlier the Stro's are fading. They are 4-6 in their last 10 and have lost 2 in a row.

The wild card looks more and more like Phillie or Florida.
The Cards can hurt both Florida (3 games starting Monday) and the Stro's (5 games left).
I'm betting on Phillie.

You don't give my Metsies a little chance, not even.....They swept...and have the best stafff..top to bottom in baseball right now..and you might well see Atlanta drop all the way down....

BTW..are you buying a raffle ticket for the stadium implosion?

It's possible that, like Randy Johnson, Curt just got old...it happens....the body catches up with you one day..and the difference, in terms of velocity, between a great, and a mediocre pitcher..isn't much...BTW...RJ pitches today....against the Royals..if he blow it....

The PondScum Mets are white noise until they get into the top 3 in the WC race.

Actually I have been trying to find out where to buy them. Haven't found out where yet. I wanna push the button.

PondScumMets?.....

Well they have been the PondScum Mets for over 15 years now. A Disc Jockey gave them that name during a pennant race and it has stuck.

OK..that's it..we take 3 of 4 from you

Bring it on.

No, I think it's that every non-Red Sox doctor calling up to talk shows said Schill would need 12 months to heal from his surgeries-- there was even some infection the doctors had to deal with-- in the offseason. It's possible that he could be back healthy next year, but he's definitely worthless for this year. He can't push off that ankle to get movement on his pitches. His arm strength is fine. He hit 94 last night, but it's like Embree this year-- fast ball ropes right down the middle that make juicy targets for batters who can hit straight fast balls down the middle (and the majors are full of those kind of guys, even the Royals).

You can't speed up healing times that much just because you want to, and Schill wanted to. He should have, at the least, been shelved all season until the ASB. Never should have made those early starts, for example.

Curt cost us two games on this road trip alone. Over the season, you can't at all say he helped more than he hurt us. You don't see the Yanks sending out Kevin Brown every 5th day, but we probably will with Schill.

Insanity's definition in full effect.

There's nothing in what you said that I would disagree with, and obviously you follow the news much more closely than I do..however, there may be one rationale, even a justification, for the management decision to pitch him now...that is, there's NO guarantee about next year..Basball's changed..you can't plan for a few years down the road..Look, they're the defending champs..you put it all out and try to win one more..Heck, the Yanks might overpay for Damon, Manny might demand to be traded, and Curt, even a rested Curt could just get old fast over the winter..It happens to 40+ year old pitchers..then where are you..My sense is that RS management feels they have a pretty good chance to win it all again this year...and then they want to do a major retooling of the team...and with 2 consecutive championships..fans will give them a few year's grace..

Chris Carpenter would have made the WS more competitive for the Cards last year, but he was injured and they shut him down for the year (win his start, forcing a Game 5, at least, and not having Schill available for his second start -- which was the case per the doctor who did the suturing-- and things could have been totally different) and in return, they get a Top 3 Cy Young vote getter and the best record in all of baseball and home field until the WS. You have to play smart, not just play hard. The Cards played smart. I think Schill was allowed to impose his will on team management, but I'm not willing to put all the blame on his shoulders for this debacle.
