Thought this may help a little with those struggling with the cost. I know it saves me some bucks.

If you have more than one vehicle, use the most fuel efficient.

Run on 1/4 tank and close to empty most the time, you know less weight.

Replace the solid tailgate on your pick up with one of those net things or drive with the tailgate down to save on gas at expressway speeds.

I parked the F150 and started driving the ranger. I don't waste trips anyway. I order most of the parts I need for my business and anything else I can get locally.

9. Don't tailgate. You spend half your time hitting the brakes, and then back to the gas pedal.
I love people that come up behind me while I'm driving the Speed Limit. They're going like 1 mph faster so they have to pass me, and then decide to go 2 mph slower than me. I love those guys!

Good start--a few more:
optimum fuel efficiency for most domestic vehicles is quite slow--well below normal highway speeds
aerodynamic drag is a huge factor--and quadruples with a doubling of the speed-- so minimize aftermarket drag producing gadgets
if you can accelerate more smoothly and slowly than your cruise control--don't use it
time those stop lights (within reason) so as not to have to come to a full stop
keep tires properly inflated, vehicle tuned at proper intervals. with a replacement air cleaner
These are general comments intended for the non-gearhead.

I find I get a lot better mileage at 75 mph than I do at 60 mph. Go figure.

4. Remove excess weight from your car. (Garbage in the trunk etc.You mean people have junk in the trunk. I know what you mean though, I've seen where it looks like people live out of their trunks. Clothes, jackets, tennis shoes, workout clothes, work suits, handbags, weights, all kinds of stuff. Clutter that adds weight to the car.
All I have in mine is jumper cables, first aid kid, emergency kit, an umbrella and an ice scraper. It's as light as it can be.

My dad described driving as a matter of momentum management. Try not to waste momentum. The heat in your brakes = wasted gas.
Also, drive as if you had an egg between your foot and the gas pedal.
