Broncos stir lineup, move Rice to No. 3

DENVER (Aug. 15, 2005) -- Jerry Rice moved up the Denver depth chart, running as the No. 3 receiver at Broncos practice, ahead of Darius Watts.

Rice was already considered a near shoo-in to make the roster and continue his record-setting career into a 21st season. The move only serves to confirm that fact.

After practice, the veteran receiver continued with a theme he set when he signed with the Broncos: that he is simply trying to prove himself and make the team.

"I pretty much approach every season never thinking about what I accomplished the year before," Rice said.

Rice was limited in practice much of last week with a sore foot. He played briefly in the preseason game against the Texans and caught one pass for six yards. He is expected to play more when the Broncos face Rice's first team, the San Francisco 49ers.

Was he happy to move up the depth chart?

"I'm just happy to be on the football field," the 42-year-old receiver said.

couple of things just from what I excerpted....

First of all, Jerry is playing for the love of the game. TO could learn a thing or two...

secondly, seeing Jerry Rice in a Broncos Uni is going to look weird.....

Nothing could be weirder then seeing Bill Parcells wearing a Cowboy jacket. That my friend broke my heart.

It has been really strange seeing a bunch of the great 49ers in other uniforms
Joe Montana--Kansas City
Ronnie Lott--NY Jets, Oakland Raiders
Jerry Rice--Oakland,Seattle and now Denver
Some things you can never adjust to.

If he's cut before the third game, they won't have to pay him.

Yeah...

or seeing Ozzie Newsome in the Baltimore Ravens front office....

weird stuff...

kinda like seeing Willie Mays in a Mets Uni. Is it a San Fran thing or what?

yeah but if they have him this high already on the depth chart, I can't possibly see them cutting him unless they start out 0-5 or 0-6...which they won't....

That was strange too.
But Dallas was the Giants biggest rivalry, so it showed a complete lack of loyalty.
You would never see Gibbs doing something like that.

no you wouldn't....

I think the only weirder (if that's a word) thing would have been if Parcells would have went to the 'skins....

nope.

but if you look at the top 3 WRs on the Broncos, they look pretty decent..

if only Jake Plummer could remember which color his jersey is....

Your right about that I know Gibbs prays daily for restraint.
