SEATTLE - "Will work for food...or beer"
Those are the signs you usually see held by transients on local freeway off ramps. Some are now holding new signs --- advertising a local Web site.
Its called "bumvertising." That's the term Ben Rogovy with pokerfacebook.com came up with after talking with transients about his idea. "I told them about my site, and they asked about it, they were curious," he says. "And then I asked them if they wanted to help me out and I'd pay them. And they were very willing. Appreciative, too."
Rogovy says holding the professionally made signs is having an impact. "Homeless men actually make comments like 'wow, people are actually reading my sign, I just thought they gave me a dollar or food and never read it.' I think they're actually putting more care into what they are saying."
Some though, are criticizing the idea. "They don't like the term 'bumvertising'. And I'm not too attached to the term, I just thought it was appropriate," says Rogovy.
Jeff, who agreed to hold one of Ben's signs along with his asking for cash, says people have the wrong idea. "This isn't exploitive to anybody. We have the right to do it, just like anybody else does."
Rogovy says he's not out to save the homeless and he treats them like adults. "A lot of organizations try to give them shelter or food and a lot of them try to organize the homeless to landscape or clean up neighborhoods. I think that's great. But I'm just trying to work within the boundaries that they have set for themselves."

I'm thinking that Abercrombie & Fitch won't want us to associate their stores with these guys...?
LOL...I moonlight at a local homeless center. I may get in on the act.
Only reason I came to the thread. I was expecting pics of firm fannies (female please) with temporary advertising tatoos.
Interesting way to 'earn' a living.
Will they cover the botox and facelifts to keep the advert fresh and new as she ages?
Yep. I'd say thats about 15 laser removal sessions by the looks of that tat. Stupid people keep a lot of us employed. 8>)
That headline is really confusing to us English speakers
LOL! Imagine 15 laser removal sessions. Owwww. Not to mention the possible scarring. I guess she could wear bangs.
When you see someone holding the sign, "Will Work for Benefits," beep and wave--it will be me.
