If you want to say something please don't call soccer gay or stupid. I do want to know why you all think that. I'm assuming you all are used to seeing pro(all passing-very few one-on-one encounters) or little kid soccer(all one-on-one encounters). Those aren't fierce or exciting. High school and middle school games are much more active with strategies, skill, and a good mix of passing and one-on-one.

Soccer: Why is it hated?

Because it's landscaping with defense.

One reason is Europeans say we should like it. Some even get angry when we don't care about it.

Also it's gay and stupid.

Reminds me too much of hockey. Strange 'off sides' rule.

I agree soccer players are some of the best athletes in the world. But to answer your question. I dont think it is hated. I just think most people dont want to see people run back and forth and end up with a final score of 1-0.

Baseball takes more skill than you think. That's why you don't see 5 year old girls playing it all over suburbia, a la soccer.

Baseball needs more skill than any sport, except golf. Kids love playing soccer, and I don't see anything wrong with it as a sport. But there are two problems witth selling it to an adult audience:

1) Americans love scoring, and soccer doesn't offer enough of it. To the uninitiated, it just looks like a bunch of guys running around a field for 90 minutes and not accomplishing much.

2) The French play it. ;)

Soccer is a great sport to play, but I cannot understand why ANYONE would find it entertaining to watch. To my mind, American football is by far the greatest spectator sport. Baseball can be a trifle boring but I like to watch it anyway. Basketball is also great to watch. But watching soccer is just incredibly boring. Why it has such a huge following in Europe is beyond me.

And NASCAR just puts me to sleep...

Soccer players at my son's high school were referred to as "grass fairies".

I played soccer for the first time since I was a child last year in a league... and I will give without question the game requires more endurance than most other sports... I will also say the following:

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A SPORT PLAYED BY MORE CRY BABIES IN MY LIFE! Every incidental contact has players whining to the refs.

I will also say that of all the sports I have played in my adult life, the percentage of gay players is definately higher.

It is a game that requires strategy and skill, but no more than other sports.

That's my personal first hand synopsis of Soccer.

Sports suck in general, not just soccer. 1 minute of action packed into 4 hours, for the most part. And sports siphon tax dollars for the billionaire owners.

Thousands of our children are maimed or even killed each year by these dangerously addictive activities. And all the profits go to Big Sports, so they can keep marketing their products to children.

I like it a little but it's a tad boring. I mean, it's not uncommon to see scores of 1 - 0 or 2 - 1. That's a long time between goals, hmmm?

I did enjoy indoor soccer much more when it was popular here in San Diego back in the 80's.

I don't hate it, but I can understand why Americans don't really want to watch all the running back and forth across the field with so few goals to show for it. To me, American football can be just as tedious. Start, stop, start, stop, start, stop, while inching back and forth down the field.

baseball doesn't need too much skill.

This is bad even for a nonsensical vanity rant. I dare you to (1) throw a curveball and (2) hit a curveball.

The last time I watched any part of a soccer match was in the World Cup eliminations oh, about 3-4 years ago. United States vs. Germany.

In the second period, Germany scored the first goal of the game: Germany 1, USA 0.

At that point, the announcers said, "Well, the Americans have quite a hole to climb out of now."

When the impact of that statement sunk in, I turned off the game and have not watched a minute of soccer to date.
