Man beaten with his own leg -- Says he couldn't get away

Midland — (08/05/05)-- A Midland man talks is talking for the first time about his unusual attack. He was severely beaten with his own prosthetic leg.

Greg Gale has had some rough times.

He lost his leg in a train accident twenty years ago, and now, he's been beaten by his own prosthetic leg. Gale tells abc12's Jennifer Borrasso he and his girlfriend, Tammy Johnson, got into an argument at his Midland apartment this past Wednesday night.

He says she started beating him in the face and head several times with one of his spare prosthetic legs. He tried to get away, but says she followed him out the door, still hitting him with the leg.

A witness saw Gale and called police.

"She tried to kill me," Gale said. I've known her for years," he said, thinking that she is frustrated with their relationship. "Probably because I won't commit... I'm not sure."

Tammy Johnson is in the Midland County jail tonight.

She faces two felony counts - an assault with a dangerous weapon and larceny.

Police say she tried to steal the leg.

She'll soon head back to court for a preliminary hearing.

"On the other hand ..."
You meant, "on the other leg"? Indeed, life follows art: 82 years ago Yaroslav Hasek wrote about a guy with a prosthetic leg. In a drunken brawl in a beer hall another guy grabbed that leg, tore it away and hit the invalid on the head with it. But in the book the assailant fainted from the sight...

Great minds think alike. LOL.

They were former lovers, but now they're arch-enemies.

"Fake legs don't beat people, PEOPLE beat people."

Great line, Darkwolf377. My guess is it'll crack up the people on FR who have artificial limbs. Nice one!

Hmm, who me? I'm not Francis. I meant what I wrote. I think your line was the best I read. Really funny. Too bad they won't use it on the news. Too logical and not far enuf left for them, I 'magine.

Woman was charged with "assault with a deadly weapon." Never thought of an artificial leg in that light, but I see their point. If his leg's charged as an accomplice, I wonder if it'll be sentenced to prison? Nutty as things are today, even that wouldn't surprise me. Maybe the ACLU would defend his leg on Court TV. Better use of their time than any of the other destructive things they're involved with, that's for sure.

No, they'll sue for its emancipation from its "owner" and demand its slave-name be changed. "Artificial leg" implies a substantive difference between it and a "biological leg". That's too much of a burden for the leg to have to deal with. The leg should then be put through college at taxpayer expense--all limbs need inspiration and role models.

Meanwhile, those legs that are inconveniently attached to unborn babies can be destroyed with abandon. Ain't the ACLU boootiful!

Hilarious, smart stuff. Really funny -- all of it. Pardon me for getting personal but if you don't write or perform stand-up political satire, you should. So what that you'd have to give up your day job? Exactly how many Chairs of Biochemical Inorganic Chemistry and Intergalactic Thermonuclear Physics do we need at our major university hospitals, hmm?
