Alameda County [CA] won't take the World Cup this year for the largest number of women suckling simultaneously at separate sites.

Still, 287 mothers had a hoot Thursday, breastfeeding their progeny in concert at seven spots in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.

"This event speaks volumes about why we want to move here,'' said Cammie Lin, 30, a resident of Manhattan who latched her 5-month-old son Kai at an event in North Berkeley.

"It's good to be in a place where breastfeeding is not only supported but valued. I never see any women breastfeeding (in public) in New York,'' said Lin, who was accompanied by her husband, Edgar. The couple heard about the event while visiting relatives in San Francisco.

Berkeley moms Leila Bouhedda (front) and Jeanine Strickland (behind her) feed Yasmin and Pepper at Berkeley's Cedar Rose Park.

Weird!

O.K. so some mother's nurse, why do we have to make a point of it? Just do it and shut up about it.

She named her kid Pepper?

I have a Cocker Spaniel named Pepper. He's a crazed little thing; but not in the Berzerkly sense of the word.

That explains it.

Yep, it's a bodily function so why the fanfare?!

How about a local pub sponsoring a 100 man pee line - makes about as much sense!

Geez, some of them look big enough to go fetch a milk jug and pour their own.

Some of us would get into a lot of trouble for attempting to fetch a jug on our own.

Probably not from those ladies...doesn't appear to be an age limit on drinking from their jugs. ;-)

Exactly! This is one of Americas problems now-having to put all out on the table for everyone else to say it is ok.Sure breastfeeding is fine but do we care? My cat goes tothe litter box and ants hoard for the winter, but I do not want to hear about it.

I just don't get it. I breast fed all three of my children for the first few months of life. Most of my freinds nursed their babies as well. We don't go around bragging about it. It's just something you did.
