Word For The Day,. Friday, August 5, 2005
August 5, 2005 | Argh

Posted on 08/05/2005 2:04:23 AM PDT by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of four "Words for the Day".

1. habromania

Noun: [from Greek words habros meaning graceful or delicate and mainesthai to be mad]:

a kind of insanity during which the delusions are of a cheerful character

2.quackle [onomatopoeic]

to choke or suffocate

3. uranism [YUR-en-ism: from the Greek Urania, another name for the Greek goddess of sex and love Aphrodite. This is what my 3-volume Webster’s says. I thought Urania was just the Muse of astronomy. Then there was the Titan Uranus who was the sky god and first ruler. He was the son of Gaea, who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea (why the complex is named after Oedipus, who at least didn't know he was marrying his mom, instead of Uranus, is beyond me, but I digress) and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans. His rule ended when when Cronus, encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth.]

a homosexual condition especially when involving physically normal males

4. Friday word:

souteneur [pronounced soo-ten-EUR, from French sustenir to support]

A type of pimp, a man who cohabits with a prostitute, lives off her earnings, and often solicits for her - also called cadet

Example sentence:
Souteneur: think Bill and President Hillary.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

well i waited to get married so having kids at that age wasn't possible. which i happen to think accounts for our still being married after 20 years. though my best friend growing up whose 26 yo son just got married, is my age exactly and got married at age 22 and is still married to the same man. she is truly an anomaly in this day and age.

With my Sox on top of the majors I have a blind eye for everything else. They were the first team in either league to 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70 victories. Which ultimately means nothing come October - but after a a lifetime of frustration following these guys - well hell - it's a fun ride.

Odd thought that hit me for no reason driving to work - maybe the Corialis Effect (sp?) spins the football backwards for that Aussie punter - but only on his natural side of the equator.

both of my parents are gone now, but my mom predeceased my dad by about 11 years or so and i definitely was physically affectionate with him, bc that thought had occurred to me, that he would have been deprived of touch. it is wonderful that your pastor articulated that and is telling children that they owe that to their parents. i would feel terrible if i was just made aware of that now and had missed the opportunity to do it.

your mom is remarkable in asking that you pray for her to be able to change, that is so laudable. old people can become so self centered and entitled to whatever they feel just based on longevity. it isn't an attractive trait. i like your mom : )

can't you get a quiter Hello Kitty? - I can hear it all the way over here. And isn't it embarrassing to travel with the thing - doesn't it show up on x-rays?

The touching part he added about adult children is so true. When kids are small, they are all over you, all the time it seems(especially nursing moms), but as they get older there is less physical contact. While growing up, my family was not touchy at all, but my kids are.
Touchy is better. :-)

it is true there is less touching as they get older. xsteen made a point of giving me a big hug on my bday and i said how much i appreciated it, bc she doesn't do it often and her response was that i didn't HUG HER anymore. so i am trying to maintain physical affection with here and xsboy even though they are teens now. now xsbrownie is on me like white on rice fairly constantly, even in church this past sunday with no a/c and she is right up agin me : )

my family growing up was very touchy and i want to make sure it is that way with my kids

Well, I would use a maul, myself.
But on a girl? That's sick.

So true.

Death by malling is more of a teenager thong.

wasn't done back in the day. i was 29 when i got married and 32 when i had the first baby xsteen. i am very serious that i think waiting til you know who you are and what you want, gives your marriage a much greater chance of success. not that youngsters who marry can't have a successful marriage, but the odds are against them. Many of xsteen's friends parents are much younger than xshub and i, and almost every one of them is divorced. xsteen, herself, has seen that correlation for what it is.
