Word For The Day,. Friday, August 5, 2005
August 5, 2005 | Argh

Posted on 08/05/2005 2:04:23 AM PDT by Argh

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of four "Words for the Day".

1. habromania

Noun: [from Greek words habros meaning graceful or delicate and mainesthai to be mad]:

a kind of insanity during which the delusions are of a cheerful character

2.quackle [onomatopoeic]

to choke or suffocate

3. uranism [YUR-en-ism: from the Greek Urania, another name for the Greek goddess of sex and love Aphrodite. This is what my 3-volume Webster’s says. I thought Urania was just the Muse of astronomy. Then there was the Titan Uranus who was the sky god and first ruler. He was the son of Gaea, who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea (why the complex is named after Oedipus, who at least didn't know he was marrying his mom, instead of Uranus, is beyond me, but I digress) and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans. His rule ended when when Cronus, encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth.]

a homosexual condition especially when involving physically normal males

4. Friday word:

souteneur [pronounced soo-ten-EUR, from French sustenir to support]

A type of pimp, a man who cohabits with a prostitute, lives off her earnings, and often solicits for her - also called cadet

Example sentence:
Souteneur: think Bill and President Hillary.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using one or more of the Words for the Day in one or more sentences.
The sentences must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

I have plowed her driveway a number of times, but she has never seen me - I am having fun with this.

Shame if she catches me in a stupid airport.

And I am even wearing my hat. Hard to hide. LOLOLOL

Glad you enjoyed the rodeo-you do get used to the livestock smells. Have a great trip home...

When we go to a Spurs game in SA, I always get a laugh out of the women dressed in heels and nice outfits staring down their noses at those of us wearing jeans and boots or tennis shoes-little do they know that every time the Spurs score on a really good play, they are going to be showered with beer, soda and popcorn as people leap up from their seats cheering and waving their arms...

"don't know any better"

I hope they do after the first time it happens.

I've got to go get rear brake pads for my car, drive it into the garage and put them on and then plant some more dill and tomatoes, if there is time. A neighbor down the street wants us to meet her and her husband for dinner tonight at the new restaurant one of the realtors recently opened-I told her if we wanted to drink wine, we needed to be sure we take our own corkscrew.

I need to put more peppers in..........and some more basil. I think I'll send hubby to the garden center when he goes out with Jax later to get me more basil. There is no way I can maneuver around in there on the crutches.

oh yeah, both of us in sandals, as well as xsbrownie,we were in beach garb for all intents and purposes and it was chilly. but yes, xsteen had on her new eliza b beach sandals, pink with eyelet trim. Believe me, i knew we were sticking out like sore thumbs there! i brought 5 pairs of shoes on vaca, all of them sandals : )

and if patton runs into xshub and xsboy at Dulles, he should give them a big kiss from me. they are flying to dulles, while the girls and i are heading to Reagan national, they will be home a few hours before us bc their flight is direct and so they will pick us up.

I've been around long enough to handle the cuffs and cords, but I dunno about the sewing machines.

Cordially,

some people are on vacation and don't have their entire wardrobe with them and are unaware that they may go to a rodeo while they are away : ) I knew we would be dressed inappropriately, but there wasn't a thing i could do about it.

Well you wouldn't have been wearing boots even if you had everything with you XS - I know many people make fun of those of us who wear boots but they were made specifically for the purpose of being around animals because the flat surface of the bottom makes them easy to clean - even tennis shoes, which might have made you feel more appropriately dressed, would be really hard to clean later because of the groves in the souls of the shoes - Your sandals were probably a better choice than you think - I was just teasing you

*SIGH* Hubby has been teasing me about how by the time I get the cast taken off and can go back to wearing real shoes I'm going to have one brand new gardening shoe/boot and one worn out one.

He had bought me a pair of the most unfashionable looking leather work shoes for gardening.........they may be ugly - and clunky looking but they are one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes I have had in a long time.

BUT they have a very sturdy sole and a lot of support, so because my ability on the crutches is between zip and none, I have been wearing nothing but the one of those on my right foot to get around.

I'm hoping he remembers that I need a new pair of cowboy boots...........my b'day is coming up next month :)

I've been eyeing some new boots myself - hope you gets yours too!

I may have told you this but when I was in a cast, it was December, and my boss got a call from his princess wife - who was about 5 months pregnant (therefore incapable of doing anything for herself!) - her maid was at the house and they had run out of comet so I was sent out in the sleet to the store. On crutches, in a cast, in the sleet -

I've been searching for a voodoo hex for them both for years now.......;^)
