She said the Republican Party is backing Diane Tebelius, to run for US Senate against Maria Cantwell.I met Diane. She has a big job ahead of her called "Name Recognition". Other than that she seemed to be a very bright articulate candidate.

Personally I thought Tebelius was a better choice, but it seems most people vote based on the vibe they get from a candidate (sadly) That is something Diane could work on. She does need a bit more "energy" personally when speaking to groups.
She should also watch her campaign staff. The last time they did up some piece (a slim jim?) that carried a really awful picture of her, looking washed out and strained.

She's also a great campaigner; at the very least she would give Cantwell a tough race. She's guaranteed to win.
It's our turn to steal an election...

Mine too. She formed an exploratory committee and even they haven't heard anything from her for over a month.

Messed up. There's some serious arm twisting going on with the Bellevue Mafia and the senatorial money makers.
The grassroots don't like it either. Factor in Zilly's ruling on Friday, that the parties cannot protect their names, we are in for some interesting events.
I'll bet one thing, contrary to the wishes of the party, we will have a contested senatorial primary.

I expect to see some dark horses appear because of all the uncertainty. Just when you think it couldn't get any weirder in this state...

They are also more inclined to develop a conservative political attitude to stop the trend they have lived through in California over the last couple of decades. One hopes so. I'm watching my locale slowly move from red to blue with the influx of Microsoft money.

In addition to the other replies, it is because we are the most active state board at FreeRepublic!
All too often posted info gets lost as it is replaced with newer posts.
We'll let you know how this turns out.

Since we are changing topics slightly, from peak hour traffic forecasts not including the changing demographics of retirees who will value their time such that they wont sit in rush hour traffic to people moving from blue states to red states......or in this case from blue counties to creating red counties in other states....
One of the demographics I have been curious about is the post-multiple hurricane Florida demographic change. I remember seeing signs and reading stories about retirees and people who had retired to Florida and after three hurricanes in a row were fed up and decided to move somewhere else. I thought that it wouldn't take much to change Florida from a "contested" state that has been red to a solid conservative and Republican state, by just a few NE Yankees moving somewhere else.
Similarly, I recognize the demographic trend you are talking about with many people moving out of California to Oregon, Nevada, and Washington.

All too often posted info gets lost as it is replaced with newer posts. Late last year I was over on the FL board with some questions for the locals. I came back to WA, where messages were scrolling off every few days. It was a bit of a shock to return to the FL board many months later, to see my original questions still up there!

(the WA message board was VERY active, quite literally orders of magitude greater than any other state board I've seen),Oh okay. I didn't realize any of those boards were really that active, hence my questioning the need for a Washington State thread.

No thanks. Carry on...

MotleyGirl70, no problem!
We've actually got a pretty active crew out here -- perhaps a side-effect of living in The Peoples' Soviet of Washington. And in part due also to the efforts of our tireless Free Republic Puget Sound Chapter president, Libertina!
(Libertina, we gotta get that chapter picnic going; I have a new digital camera that's in need of a workout.)

that seems a little off balance. How does a huge megabucks corporation that crushes it's opposition in court, if not at the market place and out sources a huge portion of its support and entry level labor attract a liberal following? First off, they're software types. Which tend to be more liberal than, say, hardware engineers. Add high income to a school-induced guilt complex, and they tend to vote in the direction of higher taxes without understanding what they're doing to those around them who are not (wealthy) like them.
My immediate neighborhood has been slowly shifting from "families" to childless two-income Microsoft couples.
