That poor, poor dog! Words can't describe how sorry I feel for it and its owners to see it have to go through this.

Then that is 1 hell of a fakery. Giving a cursory once-over it looks perfect.

This has to be photoshopped. That looks like the animal got several swipes and I would think that after the first swipe, the dog would have taken off.

But then, I'm not a dog owner so what do I know.

If it were photoshopped, you would think they would do something about the shoes the handler is wearing.

This picture was taken at the vets office as it appears to be a clinic like setting. The attendant standing next to the dog is wearing clothing typical of a veterinarian assistant.

Those heinous shoes are required gear? I don't think I would let my daughter become a vet tech if that were the case.

Snopes now has it as true---

What happens when a pitbull picks a fight with a porcupine?

Somewhere out there is a naked Porcupine.

This dog apparently did not know when to quit when she encountered the porcupine.

Origins: An alternate version of this e-mail provides the additional information that the dog pictured above is a female bull terrier named Inca who had her memorable encounter with a porcupine in May 2005:

Inca apparently did not know when to quit when she encountered the porcupine on Victoria Day, May 23rd. These are the pictures the vet sent before the long (and expensive) procedure to remove the quills. She had thousands of quills, and her tongue was so covered, she could not close her mouth.

It was pretty scary at first. She is doing okay now, but looks like a World War III survivor as they had to cut some out in places, stitched between her toes, and many quills bled on removal.

Here are still quills buried in her, but they should work their way out over time (I pulled four more today). She is on antibiotics and pain meds and thankfully is doing quite well. Maybe she was showing off for her new boyfriend, Rocky, I don't know; but he only got a few in him, which friends were able to remove. Ike, of course, had better sense.

I sure hope that the Queen of Quills has learned her lesson...

These photos (along with a pre-quilling picture of Inca) were posted to the Citytv message board.

And I am so glad if she is doing fine now. I was so scared for her. I thought at least the surgery needed would do her in if not the quills - so much hacking I would think.

actually to pull quills out you need to cut the end off. Quills are full of air and cutting them causes them to deflate, flatten and relax the barbs.

Thanks...I just learned something I never knew before..so then the recommended proceure is to cut the ends off, let them deflate..then push them through, because of the barbs, correct...

I have never pushed them through, only pulled. Also to note that if barbs break off the quill, every muscle contraction makes them advance forward. Some animals have gone mad or blind from a barb working it's way around the optic nerve or brain.
