Bush's SCOTUS Pick: The Last Betrayal?

Posted on 07/19/2005 11:02:47 AM PDT by faithincowboys

If as it appears Bush will nominate a moderate named Edith Clement to the Court, will the Right bolt from the GOP in next years midterms? Bush, someone I have been a big fan of, is turning out to be a heck of a disappoinment. He hasn't controlled the borders and apparently only used the promise to appoint "strict constructionists" as a cynical ploy to get re-elected. Bush, like his father before him, is proving to be a huge demoralizer for the Right.

She's an appellate judge who, as such, must follow Supreme Court precedent. But on the Supreme Court, she can change wrongly decided precedent.

Well, aren't media sources on the Left and Right saying she's the one?

she's old anyway. Already 57. This is another instance where defeat was grasped from the jaws of victory.

How old are you 12? 57 is quite young she could be on the court for 20 years or more. You have no proof about her being a liberal or a moderate, yet you go on and on.

Absolutely - you got that right!

I don't have a good feeling at all about Pres. Bush on this..... ever since O'Conner's retirement announcement, Bush has been backpedaling on his campaign pledge, and the only group that he has chosen to publicly berate and chastise, is the conservative majority base that elected and re-elected him. I hope I'm wrong.... but conservatives have been on the short end of stick in every legislative or judicial battle ever since the Nov 2, 2004 election. Bush is not a principled conservative, he's at best a closet moderate who's more interested in appeasing the Rino's & the RATS!

If Bush betrays us tonight with his SCOTUS nominee by announcing pro-abortionist Edith Clement (ie where in the constitution is there a statement about the guarantee to privacy insuring the right to abortion ??? If that isn't judicial activism, then I don't know what would ), then conservatives ought to withhold their support en masse from the Republican Party.... I know I will!

They went ballistic over Souter too. It looks like to me that Bush is a New Englander. I think it's likely that Bush Sr. nominated Souter knowing full well that he was a center lefter. Like father like Son. Co-opting the majesty of Ronald Reagan to get elected and then blinking in every confrontation with the hard Left-- not out of expediency alone... out of political expediency and because he is a conservative in rhetoric only.

one thing that just completely irks me is the fact that no single news orginaization will use the term originalist. We need to know if she is an originalist! not just a conservative.

Were they in the room when he made the decision, no. Did he tell them anything today or yesterday, no. Don't have your chain yanked by the MSM, they want you to be upset.

Defend the moderate position you whine about? Cite her opinions and case law that I know you've read and studied to come up with that conclusion so quickly.
