The actor you were thinking about is Ian McKellan. I believe Sir Ian was considered for the part, but he'd made the commitment with Peter Jackson to do all three LOTR movies, so he was tied up at the time.

Some folks don't like Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, but I like the actor, so I don't mind.

I think Harry can use his wand against LV, but it's only when they're used at the same time against each other that the priori incantatum spell is released. I still think there is much more for Neville. I was disappointed that book 6 didn't have much about him, but I expect he'll feature greatly in the final book; I think he'll come into his own quite nicely. He and Luna might even get together. ;o)

Yes that was the actor I was thinking of (Gandalf's char). I don't mind the one who is playing Dumbledore now but the first one was better for the part. I was surprised there was not more of Neville in the 6th book but he did need some time to cultivate courage and his own identity away from the DA and I think that was the point of not bringing his character into play. I think somehow he and Harry will use both of their wands to bring down " he who must not be named." I had forgotten that Fawkes feather was the core of Harry's wand, did the HBP mention what was the core of Neville's? Maybe their wands together will have some sort of power. Then both will be the one the prophecy is about and they can both avenge their parent's torture and deaths.
