Sen. John McCain Gets 'R' Rating in Film Debut (Spokeswoman Says He Only Agreed to PG-13 Rating)

US Senator, author, presidential candidate and now movie star--Senator John McCain makes his feature film debut in 'Wedding Crashers.' And not since Richard Nixon appeared on 'Laugh In' has politics made a stranger set of bedfellows.

The New Line film follows the exploits of two divorce mediators, played by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, as they charm their way into one wedding after another.

Their goal: the bed bridal attendants whose inhibitions have been worn down by champagne, tight shoes and bridal envy. In one montage, Owen and Wilson are seen throwing down giggly scantily clad women one after another.

Not the most predictable showcase for the film debut of a potential presidential candidate who five years ago conducted Senate hearings where he personally took Hollywood to task for the prEponderance of R-rated films.

Eileen McMenamin, John McCain's communications director, said when the senator signed on, he understood the film would have a PG-13 rating.

After test audiences found the raunchiest bits the funniest, the studio decided to live with the 'R.'

The decision did not bother McCain, who touted his role publicly in recent weeks. 'The senator has not seen the movie, McMenamin. 'He agreed to do the cameo role for a fee, which he donated to charity.'

After being part of the Keating Five scandal I'm surprised he'd care about something comparatively trivial like this.

I saw the movie today. McPain was in it for about a second.

It was the funniest movie I've seen in years!

Will Ferrel is in two scenes at the end of the movie. The entire movie had me laughing hysterically.

It's worth every penny. But everything that's being said is true, it IS NOT for the family.

James Carville was in the same scene as McPain, but you won't see that being mentioned anywhere.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least the two most dangerous places in the world are not in the middle east they are between HRC and J McCain and a presidential nomination. As I've said before McCain would sell his soul to the devil for a chance to make a run at the big seat in the oval office.

McLame won't be the nominee in '08.

Dear Senator McLame, We don't pay you to be a movie star. Pick a career, preferrably acting, and begone!

This movie was one of the funniest movies I have seen in a very long time. It was not as raunchy as say the American Pie movies but it was not PG rated. Mostly due to languange, very brief nudity, some sexual depiction.

Is McCain a hypocrite? It's a R rated movie so it's not for kids unless parents take them.

This Drudge manufactured controversy deserves very little attention.

This is a must see movie. The audience was clapping at the end. How often does that happen?

I think it is amusing that McCain was having senatorial hearings 5 years ago complaining about 'R' rated movies, and now he is in one...
