The Lord is a rock, my friend, not sand.
I will now make, surely not for the last time, a polite request: If you wish to argue your case against the dreaded book, by all means...do so. On the Religion forum, if you don't mind.
I second that!
You have FRuggle mail! ;-)
Ping me with a spoiler and I'll FReepmail you a Cruciatus Curse! :)
Sorry, your argument is the one that's weak.
The Lord is a Rock indeed as we follow His teachings -- and His teaching is that magic, wizards, and the occult are abomination in His eyes.
The sand is for those who do not follow His teachings.
(And the Lord's words apply to all aspects of life, not just to a box some call "Religion.")
We can agree to disagree.
I may have to duke it out with my daughter who just returned from church camp and has been eying the tome!!!
What is Graves' disease? It sounds familiar but I can't put my finger on why. Everything OK? what's your prognosis?
When you're done reading it, we have a thread going in GenInt, discussion and predictions. Everything except butterbeer!
BTTT
Since you say that magical=occult, in your view, do you also believe that some of the other stand by stories, such as Cinderella, Snow White, Pinocchio, and the Wizard of Oz, are also guilty of expressing occultism?.....
When I have asked this question of others, who are opposed to the Harry Potter books on grounds of the occultism in them, they seem to hem and haw, or give a passing grade(with a wink and a nod), to these old time stories....
With some it seems to be a matter of degree, with others it seems to be whether the use of magic was for good or evil...
I have no stake in this...I have not read any of the Harry Potter books, nor do I have children of the age to be reading these books, and I have no grandchildren...
But it seems that some folks think a little bit of magic used for good is ok...but a little more magic, with malevolent purposes is somehow different...
I am just curious, as to how those who think the Harry Potter books are so bad, based on the use of magic, then think that the magic in such things as Cinderella is not harmful.....
Not having read the books, I cannot speak from experience....but I do know that when my younger son would play D&D with his friends, there were folks who warned me that my son might inadvertently call up an evil demon, who would snatch him right him and carry him away( no kidding, there were actuaully adults who believed that)...others thought my son would delve more and more deeply into the D&D world, and turn out to some sort of evil incarnate person(which he did not)....
Do you believe that all magic in childrens books is bad?
"Do you believe that all magic in childrens books is bad?"
Yes, I do. And I say this based upon what God says about the subject.
It's clearly stated in the Bible many times that all forms of witchcraft, magic, wizards, astrology, etc., are wrong in the eyes of God and, even as stated earlier, are actually an abomination in His eyes.
This is His Word, not just human opinion.
So, yes, anything that someone writes or produces which has occultic forms in it, whether it be "bad" witches or "good" witches, whether it be Mickey Mouse wizards or young boys and girls casting spells --- all of it is wrong according to the judgment God has already given in His Word.
He has already stated that it is wrong, and no one can change that fact.
If some people want to try to get around this by saying oh, this is only a story, it's not real.....I don't think God will be fooled. That's like saying it would be fine to have children's books about prostitutes, drug dealers, and gang murders because, well, it's only a story.
What people tend to forget is that God says these things for our good. He alone knows what's good for us and what's not good for us.
And He has very strong judgments against magic.
there is already a spoiler thread up
"This is His Word, not just human opinion."
(Referring to the Bible-- in my above post. Just wanted to clarify that.)
