A TERRY SCHIAVO case QUESTION????

Posted on 07/15/2005 11:56:01 PM PDT by ElPatriota

I am a conservative. My brother in Law is a liberal. I am visiting them here in Florida and as usual we are having the samE old arguments. The SCHIAVO case poses a new disagreement.

I uas under the impression that Terry's parents **ASKED** for the custody of her daughter, as well as all finanacial responsabilities. (In other words, the government would NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING RELATED TO HER CARE)

My brother in law contends that he never heard the parents in any of the interviews he saw on the news - and they were many - ASK for FULL CUSTODY OF HER, AS WELL AS ALL FINANCIAL RESPONSABILITIES.

So help us, who is right? Me? Him? if neither, what are the facts? (please provide links or references to articles that support the correct position>

I understand what "dead" is. You don't.

I've been an army medic for 23 years of service, and I've seen many things, more than you could ever stomach I can assure you. I know anatomy very well, am a qualified xray technician, and surgical assistant in the field.
In civilian live I'm an industrial mechanical engineer specializing in applied hydraulics. I'm certainly not a stupid man. I can read an ME report and understand what it means, but obviously you don't, cant, or refuse to. I know that if I don't plug in my coffee maker, or any electrical device for that matter, it just won't work. that is what was left of Terri's brain was like. unplugged. Nothing remaining of any lobes were connected to dependent lobes, she had no memories, no nothing. It's just not possible, because we KNOW.

You people can sit in lala land and cling to the silly excuses you repeat to support your claims. I won't. We know plenty about how the brain works, it's well mapped.

What we don't know is how to fix it. We can't grow new neurons, folia, neuro pathways and reconnect parts of the brain, the lobes, so they can work again. Terri was brain dead, virtually every single part of her brain, the higher brain functioning centers were destroyed, disconnected.

Her body lived on auto functions which are located in the Medulla oblongata [brainstem]. She was dead Feb 25 1990, and her brain decayed, rotted away since that time, slowly replaced with cerebrospinal fluid, EIGHT TIMES the normal amount contained in a normal brain sack. her brain, or more accurately, that hollow shell, was 1/3, 1.35 lbs, compared to a normal brain weight, which is 3- 3-65 lbs.

It's important to note that the Autopsy report said it was 1/3 the weight, not size.

Your insults won't work on me; as noted above, they are used by people who don't have anything intelligent to say, or facts to back up their argument.

It's very difficult for me to understand why these people are so committed to doing to a living, breathing human being what most people would never even consider doing to a dog.

Murdering disabled and/or "worthless" people was exactly what the Nazis did, so the comparison is fitting.

Life is over when your brain is dead, or did that little fact escape you?

Her brain was dead, end of story.

It would be a different story if she was "alive"

Obviously you don't know how the body works, what the order of service is.

The entire body, all the organs, serves the brain, which is YOU, your being. You are dead when you cease to be. Your body is not a brain.

Keep the insults flowing, I rather enjoy them. so far, not one of you have stepped forward with a retional debateable argument.
I guess Terri threads are where the DU people sneak in to FR. No rational thinking here, no sir-ee!!!

BTW, has your brother-in-law ever argued that the government (or, more accurately, the taxpayers) shouldn't pay for people's health care in general? If he's a liberal, his concern over the cost of Terri's care seems a little phoney considering taxpayers have been forced to financially support the socialist behemoth of Medicare for some time now.

The parents asked for custody of her, and wanted to assume full financial responsibility for her care.

There was a settlement slated for her care, but the parents offered to let Terri's husband keep that. They just wanted to take care of their daughter, and they knew that if they gained custody that the finances to care for her would be made available from donations.

She wasn't disabled, worthless, nor murdered.

She was dead to begin with, her body was kept living through intervention is all.
What is it you can't understand about ZERO BRAIN FUNCTION?

You can't murder dead people, once the brain dies, you are dead, you cease to be.

As I said, there is no point trying to explain common sense to people who have none.

Terri died Feb 25 1990.

Further, Micheal didn't kill her, nobody did. she could have got up and had a bite to eat anytime she wanted, but there is something peculiar about the human body, it just can't think, make decisions etc. without a brain. What you are suggesting, is my grapefruits growing in the orchard are going to start talking any day now, and demand I take them shopping or something. lets see if I have anymore empty head pics... nope, just some xrays of sckulls with brains IN them. Wait here's one. This one is also in a vegitive state, but a heck of alot smarter than terri, since she's got more brains...

Scoot back to DU, twit.

You're the one who fits there, newbie.

They love to empower the deaths of the weak and helpless, too.

I wouldn't. Can't stand their stench or their ideology, just as I can't stand yours.

"There was a settlement slated for her care, but the parents offered to let Terri's husband keep that.""

Where do you get that BS from? there was 8, 870 left in her account, and that went towards her service. there was nothing left. Why don't you people read the court transcripts? Are vicious rumor and lies more interesting?

there you go, you can read everything there is to know here. believe it or not, it's not biased one way or anther, unlike you's.

For someone who professes to dislike lying, you sure do it easily.

Did your children starve to death as soon as they were brought home from the hospital?

You could have told the cops, "Hey, they could have hit the fridge anytime they wanted to!"

I remember hearing that the parents told reporters that if Michael's reluctance to give up guardianship involved money, that he could keep the settlement as long as he gave them their daughter.

This probably occurred well prior to the diminishing of the account by the legal fees incurred by Michael Shiavo's legal battle to have her disconnected from her feeding tube.

It's not great etiquette to tell someone who has been here far longer than you to 'scoot on back to DU, twit', twit.

But I have a feeling your social skills are about on par with your moral sensibilities.

I don't remember them saying anything about where they planned for Teri to live, but I wonder if they had planned to have her at home? I would think that she would have gotten some help with a visiting nurse or with attendants due to the fact of her disability.

If she had been my daughter, that is exactly what I would have done. With enough support from family and friends, The Schindlers could have gotten some breaks for a few hours or even a week end. All caregivers need help.

Also, in my area there are hospice volunteers who stay for a while with patients in the home so that the family can get out for a while.

I guess this is one question that should be posed to the Schindlers or to one of their spokespersons.

It's funny how you keep saying stuff like that, but never touch the fact of 'inalienable God-given rights', of which the right to live is supreme, with a ten foot pole.

But that's par for you and yours.

Really? it's a well known FACT that terri has ZERO brain waves, nay a spark, a twitch, nada. That's what the implant into the basil ganglia was for. You do know what the basil ganglea does, don't you?

In case you don't, it's the neuro pathway for all higher lobe funtion, all cortex communication passes through it, and all communication from all the other lobes pass through it to the cortex as well.

She was brain dead. Because she had that in, they couldn't give her a MRI. You know, to keep you people happy. the CT scan's were plenty clear, so it wasn't nessesary anyway.

Say, do any of you know the FACTS of this case? Do you know there as another evaluation of her brain,, her, swallowing etc. in 2002? When Greer allowed the Schindlers to call any expert (2) that they wanted, Micheal used the hospital docs, and the court appointed their own?

I can direct you to that court doc if you'd like. it's quite interesting. It tells alot about that quack doc.

Now, after being dehyrated for 13 days.

Prior to that act, she was NOT brain dead. Not even MS or Felos or anyone except the crazy leftists who came in twos and threes to the hospice claimed something so stupid.
